In a move that has caught the attention of investors, BTIG has lifted its rating on Snowflake (NYSE: SNOW) from a neutral stance to a buy, reflecting a positive shift in the cloud landscape and the burgeoning opportunities presented by artificial intelligence. Analysts, led by Gray Powell, project that the company is on the brink of a significant upswing, driven by increasing demand in the cloud services sector and the maturation of AI initiatives.

Powell, in a detailed note to clients, expressed confidence that Snowflake could see its shares soar to a price target of $220, suggesting a substantial upside of approximately 17.9% from current levels. He noted that after navigating through a period characterized by challenges related to cloud optimization, there are now signs of a promising market resurgence specifically for cloud data analytics, which Snowflake is well-positioned to capitalize on in the current fiscal year.

Over the last six months, Snowflake's stock has rallied impressively, climbing around 41%, signaling a marked shift from its previous trends. The company has outperformed expectations through robust earnings, the launch of its generative AI product suite, strategic alliances with tech firms, and a focus on operational efficiencies. Despite this surge, it’s important to approach with caution—Snowflake's stock is still down more than 15% year-on-year, and the multi-year outlook also shows declines.

A pivotal factor going forward is Snowflake’s Snowpark platform, which Powell anticipates will evolve into a key revenue generator by fiscal year 2026, potentially amassing $1 billion in revenue from its existing customer base. This platform empowers developers to process data directly within Snowflake’s cloud ecosystem, using popular programming languages such as Python and Java. The prospect of enhanced capabilities is likely to fuel further adoption and growth.

Looking ahead, Powell also notes the broader industry trend towards AI integration, with expectations that many organizations will transition from pilot projects to full-scale implementation by mid-2025. This evolution is expected to be a critical catalyst for Snowflake, enhancing consumption trends and renewing interest in larger cloud migration undertakings among customers. As Powell succinctly puts it, the “incremental upside catalyst” stemming from AI projects reaching full operational status could provide substantial tailwinds for Snowflake.
