In a tense standoff off Cuba's coast, Havana has sharply criticized the United States for allegedly permitting anti-Cuban factions to act unchecked. The incident unfolded when Cuban forces intercepted a Florida-registered speedboat filled with armed Cuban nationals attempting to infiltrate the country.

The exchange of gunfire at sea left four attackers dead and six others wounded. Notably, at least two of those aboard were U.S. citizens, according to an American official, with one fatality and one hospitalized in Cuba. Some others might hold legal U.S. residency.

Cuban authorities maintain that these assailants were heavily armed and aimed to use the intrusions as acts of aggression. The group reportedly included individuals named in previous lists of suspects linked to terrorist activities against Cuba. The vessel's owner, however, claims it was stolen by an employee.

While pointing fingers at Washington for harboring groups hostile to its governance, Havana also disclosed ongoing communication with U.S. officials since the incident, noting a willingness on the American side to investigate the details. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed this, emphasizing the U.S. government's disassociation from the attack and pledging an independent probe.

The attack comes amid simmering tensions between the two nations, intensified by President Donald Trump's recent sanctions tightening on Cuba following the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, an ally of Havana. The situation highlights prolonged geopolitical strains and Cuba's frustrations over U.S. policies.

The wounded suspects are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Santa Clara, a guarded provincial city some 150 miles east of Havana. Security forces have maintained tight control over the facility and the detained individuals.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel took to social media to vow staunch resistance to any form of terrorism or mercenary aggression threatening the nation's sovereignty. Havana's officials highlighted the repeated warnings they have sent to Washington about escalating violent plans originating from U.S. soil, which they accuse the U.S. of ignoring.

The identities of both the deceased and surviving suspects have been released by Cuban authorities, shedding light on previously known figures connected to armed plots within Cuba. This revelation propels questions about the depth of coordination or oversight within anti-Castro exile communities operating in the U.S.

This episode adds another layer to the complicated and often hostile interactions between the U.S. and Cuba, reinforcing the challenges ahead in managing relations linked to national security, immigration, and regional diplomacy.
