Shares of Draganfly (NASDAQ:DPRO) edged up 4% after the company announced a new contract win with the DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory. The deal centers on developing a next-generation counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) platform intended to counter hostile drone threats in challenging operational settings.

Draganfly is teaming up with F4 Defense International to build a modular and integrated system capable of detecting, identifying, tracking, targeting, and neutralizing adversarial drones. Early stages of the contract will focus on system integration, operating capability development, and rigorous field evaluations.

The platform aims to blend persistent airborne surveillance using tethered drones with AI-enhanced drone identification and tracking. It will also offer battlefield and base defense situational awareness, alongside coordinated electronic and kinetic defeat mechanisms.

Cameron Chell, Draganfly's CEO, highlighted that the battlefield dynamics have shifted with low-cost drones signaling a significant asymmetric threat to militaries and critical infrastructure worldwide. He described this contract as a strategic step forward in expanding Draganfly's footprint within advanced defense and force-protection sectors.

The deal mirrors the fast-growing global emphasis on counter-drone capabilities, driven by increasing drone threats disrupting both military operations and critical infrastructure. Market research anticipates the Counter-UAS segment to grow beyond $20 billion by 2030, marking it as one of the quickest expanding arenas in defense technology.

Draganfly continues to broaden its defense and security sector offerings by developing autonomous systems, AI-driven platforms, tactical intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR) technologies, and other mission-critical drone solutions. These products support military allies and public safety institutions with emerging defense needs.

This contract win not only shines a light on Draganfly's innovation edge but also aligns with broader defense trends emphasizing layered, integrated drone threat responses across fixed and expeditionary operations. The integration of real-time surveillance, AI identification, and coordinated defeat tactics shows a complex system designed to address evolving drone warfare challenges.

With the company's shares responding positively, it will be interesting to follow how these developments in counter-drone tech impact Draganfly's position in the competitive defense sector.
