In a move that strengthens its foothold in the cryptocurrency and precious metals sectors, Mogo Inc. (TSE: MOGO) has invested $1 million to acquire a 9% stake in Digital Commodities Capital Corp. (OTCQB: DGCMF), a company devoted to holding Bitcoin and physical gold.
With this investment, Mogo has purchased 13.3 million units at a price of $0.075 each. Each unit comprises one common share, along with a warrant entitling the holder to purchase an additional common share at $0.10. This strategic gesture not only reflects Mogo's commitment to diversifying its portfolio but also signals its ongoing strategy to integrate fintech services with substantial Bitcoin reserves.
Digital Commodities operates as an investment issuer, positioning itself as a key player for investors who want exposure to long-term, asset-backed reserves without being diluted by operational complexities. As per President and Co-founder Greg Feller, Mogo perceives Digital Commodities as a pioneering model for a publicly traded company focused on sound monetary principles through Bitcoin and gold.
This recent acquisition aligns with Mogo's broader strategy, which includes a board authorization earlier in the month for a potential allocation of up to $50 million for Bitcoin purchases. Adding Digital Commodities to its portfolio not only diversifies Mogo's crypto-related investments but also complements its established stake in cryptocurrency exchange Gemini.
For stock traders, this acquisition could serve as a catalyst for Mogo's long-term valuation. As the market increasingly turns away from traditional assets and toward cryptocurrencies and precious metals, Mogo's strategic investments could position it favorably for future growth. However, as always, due diligence is key. Is Mogo stock truly undervalued? Only time and market trends will tell.
