Heads of state and representatives from NATO's defence industry gathered in Ankara this week alongside the alliance's annual summit, revealing defence procurement and cooperation agreements exceeding $50 billion. These moves underscore a push by member nations to ramp up military capabilities amid external calls for increased burden-sharing.

Among the headline announcements, Swedish defense company Saab revealed plans to enter formal negotiations on providing NATO with up to ten GlobalEye airborne early warning aircraft, priced around $400 million to $450 million each, with potential deliveries starting as early as 2030.

Meanwhile, Lockheed Martin struck a memorandum of understanding with German defense firm Rheinmetall to co-produce ATACMS missiles in Germany. This would be the first time these short-range ballistic missiles are manufactured outside the U.S. Additionally, plans for a European maintenance hub for Lockheed's PAC-3 air defense missiles are underway, though location details remain unsettled.

The UK confirmed its commitment to procure Lockheed Martin's long-range Precision Strike Missiles, investing approximately $254 million with deliveries expected to commence in 2027. Britain also hinted at joining existing partners Australia and the U.S. in further PrSM development.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte disclosed intentions to acquire up to five MQ-4C Triton surveillance drones from Northrop Grumman, supported by a letter of intent from Norway, Finland, Germany, and Denmark. Additionally, NATO's strategic airlift capability is set to expand with new Airbus A400M transport aircraft and an added A330 MRTT tanker.

On the commercial space front, German rocket manufacturer Isar Aerospace signed a deal to construct and operate a dedicated launch pad at Canada's Spaceport Nova Scotia for its Spectrum rocket model, broadening European aerospace reach to North America.

Meanwhile, a significant IT contract was inked between Accenture and Italian defense giant Leonardo. The seven-year engagement, valued at about €200 million, covers design and operation of a secure NATO communications network.

On the geopolitical front, Chancellor Friedrich Merz of Germany informed parliament that the country will acquire Tomahawk cruise missiles from Raytheon, stationing them on German soil. This clarifies prior uncertainties following U.S. President Donald Trump's earlier announcements hinting at troop reductions in Germany.
