On Sunday evening, President Donald Trump shared that direct discussions with Iran are underway and moving in a positive direction. Speaking from Air Force One, he described the talks as "extremely well," hinting that a deal with Tehran might be on the horizon.

Trump emphasized recent U.S. military actions that have impacted Iran's regime, including the elimination of high-ranking Iranian officials, framing these events as significant leverage. Still, he acknowledged uncertainty by saying, "I think we'll make a deal with them, but it's possible we won't." When pressed for a timeline, Trump noted the possibility of a deal happening soon but refrained from setting a specific date.

Iran's official stance has been to deny any direct negotiations with the U.S. since the conflict escalated in late February. Tehran insists that hostilities must cease before any meaningful talks can begin, signaling a reluctance to engage preemptively.

Regarding the prospect of deploying American ground forces, Trump declined to give a direct answer. Instead, he claimed the U.S. has "wiped out" Tehran's air force, navy, and missile launch capabilities, asserting that Washington is ahead of schedule in its military objectives.

The president also mentioned a concession from Iran, noting they allowed approximately 20 oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic maritime choke point. Reports have tied these vessels to Pakistan flags, indicating a potential move to ease tensions around oil transport routes.

Hostilities in the Middle East aren't showing signs of calming entirely. Yemen's Houthi militants launched attacks on Israel over the weekend, introducing a new dimension to the conflict. At the same time, Iran and Israel continue exchanging strikes, while the U.S. deploys thousands more troops to the region.

Trump's comments come amid heightened volatility in energy markets and geopolitical tensions. Oil prices have surged recently, influenced by these Middle Eastern developments, while gold prices edged up, mirroring investor caution.

As always, the situation remains fluid, and with conflicting messages from the parties involved, the pathway to peace hangs in the balance. Whether these negotiations will yield a ceasefire or further escalate tensions is anyone's guess at this point.
