In an unprecedented turn of events, Trump Media & Technology Group Corp (NASDAQ: DJT) saw its shares skyrocket during Monday's premarket trading. This surge comes on the heels of a dramatic weekend, underscored by a shocking event currently under investigation as an assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump.

At the time of writing, DJT stock has surged an impressive 60% in pre-market trades, marking a substantial recovery after initially peaking at an astronomical 74%. Should these gains hold steady, the company’s market valuation is poised to leap from its current $5.87 billion to an estimated $9.5 billion when the market officially opens.

This dramatic market movement follows an incident on Saturday evening in Butler, Pennsylvania, when Trump while addressing a rally, was injured by a shooter positioned on a nearby rooftop. As Trump turned to the right with his hands resting on the lectern during his speech, the shots rang out around 6:15 p.m. ET. Trump later revealed on social media that he had been shot in the ear.

Responding swiftly, Trump clutched his right ear and dropped to the ground amid a flurry of Secret Service agents striving to secure him. Additional gunshots prompted chaotic scenes, with panicked screams echoing from the crowd. Moments later, agents confirmed via the rally microphone that the “Shooter’s down.” Despite being ready to evacuate the former president from the stage, Trump, exhibiting his characteristic resilience, raised his fist to the crowd, urged them with the word “fight” mouthed thrice, and was met with the crowd's roaring chant of “USA!” The agents then escorted him to his vehicle.

Tragically, one rally attendee lost their life in the incident, while two others sustained critical injuries. The FBI noted that all the victims were male. The event has ignited calls for a thorough investigation into the Secret Service’s security measures during the rally, a crucial scrutiny given its proximity to Trump's expected acceptance of the 2024 presidential nomination at the upcoming Republican National Convention. In a show of rare bipartisan sentiment, President Joe Biden denounced the shooting as “sick” from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and later confirmed a phone conversation with Trump.

Investigations have identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. His background includes membership in a local gun club and employment as a dietary aide at a nursing home.

As of 2024, DJT stock has appreciated more than 76%, largely attributed to Trump’s robust resurgence as the Republican front-runner in the forthcoming presidential election. The recent turmoil, however unsettling, has paradoxically fortified investor confidence, propelling the stock to new heights amidst uncertainty.
