Fuel Tech Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Fuel Tech reported Q1 2026 revenues of $6.1M, down slightly from $6.4M a year ago as stronger Air Pollution Control (APC) results were offset by lower FUEL CHEM revenue driven by seasonal outages and dispatch patterns. APC revenue rose 23% to $1.6M and APC margin expanded materially; FUEL CHEM revenue fell to $4.5M but management expects it to return to historical margins later in the year. Management announced roughly $10M of new APC contract awards (anchored by an SCR integration with two GE Vernova turbines for a Midwest municipal utility), which more than doubled pro forma APC backlog and represents the largest backlog since 2018. Management sees a sizable data-center-related opportunity, estimating an APC/SCR sales pipeline of approximately $75M–$100M (pollution-control portion only) across multiple potential projects, and is actively engaging turbine OEMs and integrators. DGI demonstrations (water/wastewater) remain on track with encouraging operational results and potential commercial conversions later in 2026. Financially, Fuel Tech ended the quarter with a strong balance sheet — $30.6M in cash and investments, no long-term debt, working capital of $22.2M, and continued R&D investment in DGI. The company reiterated guidance that 2026 revenue should exceed 2025 levels, with APC expected to outperform 2025 and FUEL CHEM approximating 2025, while noting that much of the newly awarded APC contract revenue will be recognized in 2027. Operating loss widened (operating loss $1.6M; net loss $1.4M; adjusted EBITDA loss $1.3M) and SG&A guidance for 2026 remains $14M–$15M.
