Greenwald: War Propaganda About Ukraine Becoming More Militaristic, Authoritarian, & Reckless
02:30am, Monday, 28'th Feb 2022 Zero Hedge
Greenwald: War Propaganda About Ukraine Becoming More Militaristic, Authoritarian, & Reckless Authored by Glenn Greenwald via greenwald.substack.com , In the weeks leading up to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, those warning of the possible dangers of U.S. involvement were assured that such concerns were baseless. The prevailing line insisted that nobody in Washington is even considering let alone advocating that the U.S. become militarily involved in a conflict with Russia. That the concern was based not on the belief that the U.S. would actively seek such a war, but rather on the oft-unintended consequences of being swamped with war propaganda and the high levels of tribalism, jingoism and emotionalism that accompany it, was ignored. It did not matter how many wars one could point to in history that began unintentionally, with unchecked, dangerous tensions spiraling out of control. Anyone warning of this obviously dangerous possibility was met with the “straw man” cliché: you are arguing against a position that literally nobody in D.C. is defending .

The Clinton Campaign''s Two-Pronged Plan To Create The Trump–Russia Collusion Narrative
02:10am, Sunday, 27'th Feb 2022 Zero Hedge
The Clinton Campaign''s Two-Pronged Plan To Create The Trump–Russia Collusion Narrative Authored by Jeff Carlson and Hans Mahncke via The Epoch Times , In Oct. 2016, Wikileaks released a little-noticed email exchange involving Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri and Democratic strategist Joel Johnson. The exchange, which was dated Feb. 26, 2016, revealed the existence of a Clinton campaign Swift Boat project—a political term used for smear campaigns—aimed at then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. At the time, the email was largely ignored but it has recently gained new relevance through disclosures in court filings by special counsel John Durham. Trump Tower on 5th Avenue is seen in New York City, U.S., April 10, 2018. (Reuters/Brendan McDermid/File Photo) It appears that the Clinton campaign’s plans revolved around two primary prongs directed at Trump. The first and better known element of that project involved Fusion GPS and Trump-dossier author and former MI6 spy Christopher Steele.
Catriona Ward: ‘When done right, horror is a transformative experience’
06:00pm, Saturday, 26'th Feb 2022 The Guardian
The award-winning novelist on the Mojave desert, her itinerant childhood and her longstanding hypnagogic hallucinations Transatlantic author Catriona Ward, 41, published two well-received gothic horror novels, both historical, before switching things up and setting her third, The Last House on Needless Street , on the edge of a forest in contemporary America. It became her breakout book, a bestseller described by Stephen King as a “true nerve-shredder”. Now she’s back with Sundial , a lyrical, twisty tale of a toxic mother-daughter bond that begins as suburban domestic noir and soon hurtles into weirder, more terrifying territory in the Mojave desert. Ward spoke via Zoom from her home on Dartmoor, where she ascribed a light switching itself off mid-interview to the quirks of country living – either that or a spectral presence making itself felt. What was the starting point for Sundial ? The novel is quite Grand Guignol and if you’re going to do that, it really helps to have small hooks of reality to hang it on, otherwise it can just drift into madness.

Leon Panetta, former defense secretary and former CIA director, said words by former President Donald Trump (right) toward Russian President Vladimir Putin amount to “aiding and abetting.” | AP; Getty Images Siding with Vladimir Putin is “the kind of stuff that can cost lives,” former defense secretary says Click! Listen. America has been busy channeling a pixelated war in Ukraine his week, clicking our TV remotes like frantic fireflies. When the conflict quickly morphed from a rumor of war into the largest ground invasion in Europe since World War II, the world took note. We were watching Putin’s War. For the second time Russian strongman Vladimir Putin, who rules the world’s largest country, seems convinced his nation still isn’t big enough even though its land mass incorporates 11 time zones! “There is no purgatory for war criminals, they go straight to hell,” the Ukraine’s U.N. ambassador, Sergiy Kyslytsya, said about mad Vlad. “It is a war without a cause,” said President Joe Biden. “I am praying for the people of Ukraine,” tweeted former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “The world will hold Russia and Putin accountable for the human suffering and destruction this unjustifiable, unprovoked war will bring.” Pause.
Biden''s Cuban Missile Crisis
09:20pm, Friday, 25'th Feb 2022 Zero Hedge
Biden''s Cuban Missile Crisis Authored by Jeff Deist via The Mises Institute, Joe Biden''s perverse legacy, if that term even applies anymore, may well be determined in coming weeks by his handling of events in Ukraine. He can improve it by showing restraint against the relentless neoconservative chorus. One wonders what the results of a pure popular vote on the question of going to war with Russia over Ukraine would be, vs. a vote solely within the DC beltway. Note: Biden was silent on the recent imposition of emergency martial law by the Trudeau government in Ottawa (a few hundred miles from Washington, DC), but has plenty to say about Kiev (4,881 distant miles). This is not coincidental. As journalist Glenn Greenwald puts it, we are required by western propaganda to denounce actions by Putin (such as freezing the bank assets of political opponent Alexei Navalny) while cheering the same actions taken by the Canadian government against money donated to truckers . Crackdowns in "democracies" are subject to a more enlightened standard: (w)hen these weapons are wielded by Western governments, the precise opposite framework is imposed: describing them as despotic is no longer obligatory but virtually prohibited.
