CIAs Bin Laden Vaccine Ruse Haunts Public Health Efforts

01:00am, Friday, 24'th Dec 2021 The Daily Beast
Getty Coronavirus vaccination rates around the world are low for myriad reasons: short supplies in developing countries, lack of trust in the governments handing out the jabs, and conspiracy theories about whats in the vaccine and its side effects. But experts point to another possible factor which has gotten less attention: the CIA. In its quest to find and kill Osama Bin Laden , spies at the CIA used a Hepatitis B vaccination program as cover in an attempt to collect DNA samples that could locate the 9/11 masterminds family in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The effort was a flop and landed a doctor hired by the CIA in a Pakistani prison. But a decade later, public health experts and researchers say the caper could have helped erode crucial trust in vaccination efforts now necessary to end the coronavirus pandemic in Pakistanand in some cases across the globe. Victor Davis Hanson: Please, Stop The ''Coup'' Porn!

12:20am, Friday, 24'th Dec 2021 Zero Hedge
Victor Davis Hanson: Please, Stop The ''Coup'' Porn! Authored by Victor Davis Hanson, In a recent Washington Post op-ed, three retired generals, Paul Eaton, Antonio Taguba, and Steven Anderson warn of a supposedly impending coup should Donald Trump be elected in 2024. The column seemed strangely timed to coincide with a storm of recent Democratic talking points that a re-elected Trump, or even a Republican sweep of the 2022 midterms, would spell a virtual end of democracy. Ironies abound. From Election Day in 2020 to Inauguration Day 2021, we were told by the Left that democracy was resilient and rightly rid the nation of Trump. The hard Left, for one of the rare times in U.S. history, was now in complete control of both houses of Congress and the presidency. Spiking inflation, supply-chain shortages, near-record gas prices, open borders, the flight from Afghanistan, multi-trillion-dollar deficits, and polarizing racial rhetoric all followed. In response to these events, Joe Biden''s popularity utterly collapsed.

A comprehensive report by Just Security offers a chilling theory on why there was an hours-long delay in getting National Guard to the U.S. Capitol during the attack on Jan. 6. Mounting evidencesupplied by several senior defense officialsindicate the delay may have occurred because of a significant and shared fear among top brass that former President Donald Trump would use a freshly deployed Guard to invoke the Insurrection Act and attempt to hold onto power indefinitely. Just Security co-editor in chief and former special counsel for the Defense Department Ryan Goodman and editor of Tech Policy Press and contributor to Just Security Justin Hendrix posited this well-sourced theory in their Dec. 21 piece alongside some of the more commonly held beliefs regarding the delay. Those include the notion that authorities werent keen on the optics of having U.S. troops installed at the Capitol and that officials had considerable misgivings about the deployment overall. In November, the Office of the Inspector General for the Defense Department published a 153-page report reviewing the agencys role, responsibilities, and actions to prepare for and respond to the Jan. 6 assault and its aftermath.

Russia Formally Quits ''Open Skies'' Treaty, Saying There''s No Point Without US On Saturday Russia''s Foreign Ministry issued a statement declaring it has formally ceased participation in the ''Treaty on Open Skies'' - a belated move which follows the United States already having withdrawn during the last year of the Trump administration. The Kremlin says that without Washington, there''s little reason to continue Russian participation, despite the more than two dozen other participating nations. "We respect the decision of the participating States remaining in the Treaty to continue its implementation. We wish them constructive and fruitful collaboration," a formal statement reads . " However, it is obvious that without the participation of the United States and our country, the effectiveness of the Treaty on Open Skies will decrease sharply : the area of application will drop by about 80 percent, and the number of Open Skies missions planned for 2022 will severely decrease," the ministry said.
