BUSINESSES using outdated operation software will remain vulnerable to cyberattacks in the years to come, experts said yesterday. Jonas Walker security strategist of cybersecurity solution firm Fortinet, in a roundtable discussion on the "Threat Predictions for 2022," said that outdated operation software will continue to be vulnerable to hackers and scammers. "It will struggle the most because when look at these environments, the main reason why threat actors are super successful in getting access to them is they are running software which is are often out of date," Walker said. One of the reasons, he said, is that these computers that have been running for a very long time operate without even being properly adjusted. "We need security layers to isolate these environments and properly secure them," he said, adding that complacency among people is partly to blame. Citing numerous studies, Walker said it only takes one or two days before threat actors can gain access entry to their unsecured sensitive accounts. "A lot of this is automated so it takes just a few hours.
