Flex-fuel engines in vehicles: Nitin Gadakri to issue order for carmakers

New Delhi: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has stated that he will issue an order in the next two to three days mandating the use of flex-fuel engines in automobiles. Gadkari said that India imports petroleum goods worth Rs 8 lakh crore per year and that if the country continues to rely on fossil fuels, the country''s import bill will climb to Rs 25 lakh in the next five years. "I am going to sign a file in the next 2-3 days to order carmakers to create flex-fuel engines vehicles (that can run on more than one fuel) to minimise fossil fuel imports," the road transport and roads minister stated. Gadkari also stated that the day when vehicles will operate on green hydrogen is not far away. Flex-fuel, often known as flexible fuel, is a hybrid fuel that combines gasoline with methanol or ethanol. Top officials from Toyota Motor Corporation, Suzuki, and Hyundai Motor India have assured Gadkari that flex engines will be introduced in their vehicles. He also stated that India is the world''s fastest-growing economy.

Fuel pump employee robbed at gunpoint

Tribune News Service Amritsar, November 27 Two armed persons robbed a petrol pump employee after filling fuel. When the salesman demanded money for the fuel, the accused took out a pistol and pointed at him. One of them snatched the cash from him and fled in the car. One of the suspects was later identified as Sandeep Singh of Brar village, under Lopoke police station here, while further investigations were on to identify his accomplice. Manbir Singh, sarpanch of Khurmania village, told the police that he had a Hindustan Petroleum petrol pump in the village on Attari Road. He said on Thursday evening, a Hyundai Accent car came to the pump and filled fuel worth Rs2,000. He said when the salesman demanded money from him, the accused snatched Rs8,000 from him after pointing a pistol at him and fled from the spot. Manbir immediately took his car and started chasing the suspects and alarmed the cops about the robbery. He said the police party had set up a naka at Brar village following the information.
