Leaked Video Emerges Of US Stealth Jet Crashing On Carrier In South China Sea
04:05am, Wednesday, 09'th Feb 2022 Zero Hedge
Leaked Video Emerges Of US Stealth Jet Crashing On Carrier In South China Sea In late January, a $135 million single-seat, single-engine, all-weather stealth fighter jet designed by Lockheed Martin crash-landed aboard the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson in the South China Sea. A partial video of the incident was published days after the Jan. 24 crash but didn''t show the full impact until now. A leaked video emerged on the internet on Sunday and shows what appears to be the entirety of the crash. The advanced F-35C stealth fighter was on approach to land on the USS Carl Vinson as flight crews can be heard calling off the landing, but it was too late, as the jet undershot the flight deck, causing its engine and tail to smack the deck and miss the tailhook. The plane exploded into flames as it slid off the carrier''s flight deck into the South China Sea. Beijing responds to $100mn US-Taiwan arms deal
11:35am, Tuesday, 08'th Feb 2022 Russia Today
Taiwan missile upgrades pose a threat to China’s “sovereignty and security,” officials say Beijing strongly condemned a possible $100mn deal between the US and Taiwan, aimed at improving and sustaining its missile system. During a Tuesday press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said the US government should immediately ditch its plans to sell military equipment and services to Taiwan. He urged Washington to respect the “one China” principle and stressed that an arms deal between the US and Taiwan is a threat to China’s sovereignty and security interests, as well as ties between China and the US. “China will take appropriate and forceful measures to firmly safeguard its sovereignty and security interests,” he stated, as quoted by Reuters. While asked about concrete measures China could take, he told the reporters to “wait and see.” Read more China a bigger threat than Russia, US senator says in bid to arm Taiwan On Monday, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency said it had approved and delivered the required certification for a sale of $100mn worth of equipment and services to Taiwan in order to “sustain, maintain, and improve” its Patriot Air Defense System.

US FTC to review Microsoft’s $68.7-billion deal for Activision – report
05:56am, Tuesday, 01'st Feb 2022 Rappler
The US antitrust review of Microsoft’s $68.7 billion proposed acquisition of Call of Duty maker Activision Blizzard will be handled by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Bloomberg News reported late on Monday, January 31, citing a person familiar with the matter. The FTC, instead of the Justice Department, will investigate whether the takeover will harm competition, the report said. Microsoft, Activision and FTC did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment. The deal announced by Microsoft in January is its biggest-ever and is set to be the largest all-cash acquisition on record. It will bolster Microsoft’s firepower in the booming videogaming market where it takes on leaders Tencent Holdings Ltd and Sony Group Corp. In a wave of consolidations sweeping the gaming sector, Sony said on Monday it will acquire Bungie Inc , the original creator of the Halo videogame and developer of Destiny , in a deal valued at $3.6 billion. In a bid to toughen merger guidelines, the FTC and the Justice Department had last month issued a joint statement saying that industries had become increasingly concentrated and a surge in merger filings in 2020 and 2021 signaled the situation will worsen.
