Despite Covid, SBI Life beats peers in the private sector

06:17am, Wednesday, 16'th Feb 2022 Economic Times India
SBI Life has put up strong numbers over the past years despite Covid headwinds. Looking at the CAGR over 5 years, the company’s gross and net premium increased by 19% on account of growth in renewal premium and new business premium. The life insurance industry paid benefits of Rs 3.99 lakh crore in 2020-21 (Rs 3.51 lakh crore in 2019-20), which constituted 63.42% of the gross premium underwritten (61.35% in 2019-20). General Incorporation of India raised prices first last year. This was followed by Munich Re, the largest foreign reinsurer in India, which hiked the premium of term policies by 30-40%.
