NBC News Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Sunday revealed that the United States was engaging with its European allies on a potential ban on Russian oil imports, as the international community looks to inflict further punishment for its unprovoked war on Ukraine. In a private Zoom call this weekend, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emotionally appealed to U.S. lawmakers to impose even more crippling economic sanctions on Russia in an effort to cease President Vladimir Putin’s assault on his country. Zelensky also urged America to target Russia’s oil industry, asked for more direct military aid, and pushed for the establishment of a “no-fly zone” over his country. While the Biden administration had previously downplayed the possibility of sanctioning Russian oil to punish Putin , saying they “don’t have a strategic interest in reducing the global supply of energy,” Blinken was singing a different tune on Sunday. British dockers refuse Russian oil

04:00pm, Sunday, 06'th Mar 2022 The Manila Times
LONDON, United Kingdom: British dockers on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) refused to unload Russian oil from a tanker, calling for the government to close a "loophole" in sanctions allowing foreign-flagged ships to deliver the fuel. The Seacod is currently moored near the Stanlow refinery in northwest England and unions say its cargo is not covered by a ban on Russian vessels because it is German flagged. UK sanctions introduced over the invasion of Ukraine ban all ships that are Russian owned, operated, controlled, registered or flagged from entering British ports. Unite union general secretary Sharon Graham said that "due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Unite workers at the (Stanlow) facility will under no circumstances unload any Russian oil regardless of the nationality of the vessel." "Unite urges the Transport Secretary Grant Shapps to close this loophole immediately." The refinery''s operator, India''s Essar, said it was "deeply concerned by the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine and is fully complying with the statutory framework implemented by the UK government with regard to Russia-related entities." The UK is less dependent on Russian energy than many other European nations.

Greg Steube (R-FL) is calling upon congressional Democrats to prove […] The post GOP lawmaker calls upon Democrats to pass a measure banning Russian oil imports first appeared on Conservative Institute .

Moscow threatens to stonewall Iran deal over sanctions

02:54am, Sunday, 06'th Mar 2022 Dawn.com
MOSCOW: In an effort to safeguard its trade and business interests in the face of tough sanctions imposed on it after its invasion of Ukraine, Russia on Saturday sought guarantees from the US before committing to supporting the proposed Iran nuclear deal. The statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about the guarantees his government was seeking poured cold water on the prospects of an early revival of Tehran’s 2015 nuclear deal. Commenting on the announcement by Russia, which could torpedo months of intensive indirect talks between Tehran and Washington in Vienna, an Iranian official said: “Russians had put this demand on the table (at the Vienna talks) since two days ago. There is an understanding that by changing its position in Vienna talks Russia wants to secure its interests in other places. This move is not constructive for Vienna nuclear talks,” said the Iranian official in Tehran. Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), meanwhile, said after talks in Tehran that they had agreed on an approach to resolve issues crucial for efforts to revive the deal.
