THE Philippines logged 941 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Saturday, a slight increase from the day before, according to the Department of Health (DoH). Positivity rate, however, continued to decrease, coming in at 3.8 percent on Saturday, lower than Friday''s 4 percent, the DoH said. There were 26,737 samples that were submitted to the DoH Covid Document Repository system. Of the 3.67 million cases, 3.56 million, or 97.1 percent were logged as recoveries. Of the 49,374 active cases, 91.1 percent are either mild, moderate or asymptomatic and about 1,600 cases are severe or critical. The death toll is at 56,879 or 1.55 percent of the total number of cases. Based on data collected last Thursday, occupancy rate of beds in the intensive care units (ICUs), isolation and wards in the National Capital Region (NCR) is at 25 percent, 21 percent and 24 percent. Occupancy rate nationwide of beds in ICUs, isolation and wards is at 25 percent, 22 percent and 14 percent.

The country’s new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Wednesday, March 2 goes below 900, based on the Department of Health’s (DOH) latest case bulletin. Ted ALJIBE / AFP DOH reported 866 new COVID-19 cases bringing the total number to 3,663,920. Active cases stood at 50,827 or 1.4 percent of the total number of cases. Among the active cases, 45,862 are mild; 2,776 are moderate; 1,417 are severe; 474 are asymptomatic; while 298 are in critical condition. DOH said that of the 866 reported cases reported, 757 or 87 percent occurred within the recent 14 days from Feb. 17 to March 2. The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were Metro Manila with 176 or 23 percent, Region 6 with 119 or 16 percent and Region 3 with 82 or 11 percent. DOH said that all labs were operational on Feb. 28. However, 8 labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).

THE Philippines supported a United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution condemning the invasion of Ukraine. The UNGA on Monday held an emergency special session on Ukraine. The Department of Foreign Affairs posted on Twitter the Philippines'' statement on the Ukrainian crisis. "Mr. President, the Philippines votes ''yes'' to the UNGA resolution and expresses explicit condemnation of the invasion of Ukraine," Manila said in a statement to be delivered before the assembly. "No one can trust news reports of casualties on either side but 14,000 have been killed since 2014," the Philippines said. "In the current fog of lies, we have yet to determine the true casualties on both sides. We appeal for the protection of civilian and civilian infrastructure," it added. THE country recorded 1,038 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, pushing the total number of infections to 3,661,049, Department of Health (DoH) said. There were 52,961 active cases, of which 91.5 percent or 48,466 were either mild or asymptomatic, 2,780 were moderate, 1,417 were severe, and 298 were critical. The positivity rate was at 5 percent after 25,313 tests were conducted in all laboratories last February 25, but one lab was not able to submit its data. There were 51 new fatalities, for a total of 56,401. The DoH reported 1,999 new recoveries for a total of 3,551,687. The nationwide hospital bed utilization rate was 26 percent for intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 22 percent for isolation beds, and 15 percent for ward beds. Meanwhile, hospital bed occupancy rates in the National Capital Region were at 24, 23, and 23 percent for ICU beds, isolation beds, and ward beds respectively.
