2021 saw more women filling up ASX boards; heres what changed
04:37am, Monday, 06'th Dec 2021 Kalkine Media
Highlights Female representation on the boards of ASX-listed companies has seen a significant upturn over the years. The latest percentage of female on ASX 200 boards is 33.9% (as of 31 October 2021). The data also revealed that there were no companies in the ASX 200 which didnt have women representation on their boards. In what sounds like a resounding thud of Australian women shattering the proverbial glass ceiling, Australia is now one of the three countries globally to have female representation of over 30% on top company boards without gender quotas. Over the years, womens representation on the board of ASX-listed companies has seen a significant upturn. In the US, there are just above 30% of women on boards of the S&P 500 companies. On the other hand, womens representation stands at over 37% of the Stoxx 600 in Europe. Meanwhile in October, five ASX 200 companies increased the number of women on their boards, including Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, Pilbara Minerals and Bank of Queensland.

Rising investments in lithium mining and related technologies are projected to remain a key trend for the market. Lithium mining is witnessing rapid growth as its demand is accelerating owing to its application in batteries. The element is found in dry places that require thousands of liters of water for its mining. Considering the rising demand for elements and increasing usage of water required for its extraction, R&D is in place to find better alternative methods. For instance, in February 2020, funding of around USD 20 million by Bill Gates was provided to Lilac Solutions, a lithium mining technology firm located in the U.S.
