ROME (Reuters) – Shares in Telecom Italia (TIM) rose more than 9% on Monday after the phone group said it would start formal talks with KKR to assess more closely the U.S. fund’s potential 10.8 billion euro ($11.8 billion) offer.

The company board‘s unanimously mandated its CEO Pietro Labriola and chairman Salvatore Rossi to further discuss KKR’s strategy, beyond those the talks that were held by its advisors.
