Trade Undersecretary and Board of Investments (BoI) managing head Ceferino Rodolfo earlier said the BoI board will propose to the Fiscal Incentives Review Board to extend the CARS compliance period with the same duration as the state of national emergency. President Rodrigo Duterte first placed the country under a state of public health emergency on March 17, 2020. In September, Duterte issued Proclamation 1218, extending the nationwide state of calamity from Sept. 13, 2021 to Sept. 12, 2022, "unless earlier lifted or extended as circumstances may warrant." The CARS program aims to provide time-bound and output or performance-based fiscal support to attract strategic investments in the manufacturing of motor vehicles and parts.
