Costco Wholesale (COST) popped up nearly 1.7% in pre-market action, hitting $967.50 after opening at around $938. This uptick comes on the back of investors positioning ahead of its fiscal Q4 2026 earnings due on September 24. Notably, no fresh company-specific headlines stirred this move, signaling a broader confidence boost from the market in Costco's ongoing momentum.

The numbers from its prior quarter still seem to be casting a long shadow: fiscal Q3 2026 net sales landed at $69.15 billion, showing an impressive 11.6% jump year-over-year. Monthly net sales in June also kept pace with a 10.6% increase, reinforcing the narrative of solid consumer demand. Analysts have mixed grades, but lean positive with many suggesting strong or moderate buy ratings, averaging a target price near $1,100, which leaves some room above current prices.

Investors eyeballing Costco's growth engines point to the accelerating success of the Kirkland Signature private label. It's become more than a side story, now a meaningful contributor to sales growth and brand loyalty. This development adds fuel to the bullish chatter surrounding the retail giant and its defensive stance in consumer staples.

While the broader market is doing a dance of its own, with the Dow Jones edging higher by 0.7% as tech-heavy Nasdaq slips nearly 0.9%, defensive stocks like Costco remain in favor. Recent sessions have shown investors stepping away from sectors like semiconductors and energy, and that rotation seems to be benefiting Costco's stock price substantially.

Another point to note: Costco's 52-week trading range has spanned $844.06 on the low end to $1,096.50 at the high. The current price marks a comeback from those lows and suggests space to push upwards, especially if upcoming quarterly results impress.

With the earnings announcement still a few weeks out, this pre-earnings rally looks like a combination of steady top-line progress, positive analyst sentiment, and a market mood favoring defensive consumer stocks. Even as tech drags the Nasdaq lower, Costco's shares are getting some love for stability and growth.

No smoke and mirrors here-just solid stats, a brand with staying power, and a market gearing up for the fiscal Q4 reveal. Whether Costco keeps the steam or faces a speed bump remains to be seen come earnings day.

What will the numbers reveal on September 24? That's the question now hanging over the stock's solid run.
