Ferrari (NYSE: RACE) is making strategic moves to deepen its knowledge in battery technology, essential for its shift towards electric vehicles (EVs), but the company does not have plans to manufacture it.

The luxury car giant, transitioning to electrified models since 2019, aims to launch its inaugural fully electric car by next year.

Recognizing the complexity of battery cells, CEO Benedetto Vigna announced a partnership with Italy's Bologna University and NXP Semiconductors. This collaboration births the E-Cells Lab, a research initiative focused on advancing Ferrari's mastery over the batteries that power its vehicles.

Initially, the lab will delve into lithium-based, liquid-state cells, remaining open to exploring emerging technologies. However, solid-state batteries are off the radar for now. Ferrari's approach is clear: enhance in-house expertise through external partnerships, ensuring a competitive edge in the evolving automotive landscape.
