Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) is gearing up to unveil a standalone Meta AI application, positioning itself to challenge industry giants like OpenAI and Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Google. According to a recent report, this highly anticipated app is set to launch in the second quarter of this year, as gleaned from sources close to the initiative.

Currently, users can access Meta AI through web browsers and existing Meta platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. However, the standalone application aims to elevate user experience and engagement, potentially drawing in a broader audience.

During Meta's earnings call earlier this year, CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized the transformative potential of Meta AI, expressing aspirations for it to touch the lives of a billion individuals in 2023. For instance, standalone applications for AI services, such as ChatGPT from OpenAI and Google's Gemini, have already gained traction in the market.

On the trading front, Meta's stock experienced a slight uptick of less than 1% in after-hours trading following a 2% drop during regular sessions.

Nevertheless, the stock has shown resilience, boasting a total gain of approximately 12% since the beginning of the year, reaching an intriguing juncture for traders. As the company continues to innovate, market analysts and investors alike will be closely monitoring Meta's endeavors in the AI space.
