KDDI Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q3 2025
KDDI reported Q3 results for FY Mar 2025 broadly in line with the full-year forecasts: operating revenue ¥4,364.2bn (+2.3% YoY), operating income ¥864.6bn (+2.0% YoY) and net income progress ~77–78% of full year target. Key drivers were higher ARPU (both communications and value‑added), growth in finance, energy and DX businesses, strong performance from Lawson (equity income +¥18.2bn YoY), and expansion in Business Services—particularly IoT and WAKON‑CROSS (AI + communications platform). The company is rolling out new competitive multi‑brand pricing (Komikomi Plan+, Money Activity Plan+, povo toppings) and seeing recovered net additions since November. Strategic investments include nationwide 5G SA deployment, launch prep for Direct‑to‑Cell satellite service (target ~2 million customers), GPU/AI capacity expansion (Tama live; large NVIDIA GPU farm at former Sakai plant next fiscal year) and strengthened security offerings. Management change: Hiromichi Matsuda will become President/CEO on April 1, taking leadership for the final year of the current midterm plan and developing the next midterm strategy focused on AI, DX and “power to connect.” Management emphasizes disciplined, selective investment in AI/data center capacity while maintaining the current shareholder return/cash allocation framework through the end of the current midterm plan. Near-term marketing costs rose to support new plans and Lawson collaboration, but management expects to control spending going into year‑end.
