TransitoRIP: "In Just A Few Days, The Market Was Treated With Two Big Shocks"
03:45pm, Wednesday, 01'st Dec 2021 Zero Hedge
TransitoRIP: "In Just A Few Days, The Market Was Treated With Two Big Shocks" By Michael Every of Rabobank TransitoRIP In a matter of just a few days, the market has been treated with two big shocks . Last Friday, it was the omicron scare that got markets re-pricing the risks of more restrictions and hence a slowdown for the global economy. But yesterday it was Fed Chair Powell, who added fuel to the fire. In a testimony before the Senate Banking Committee he pledged to bury the term transitory and instead recommends Fed policy makers to consider explaining more clearly what the Fed thinks/means when it is talking about inflation. Or was Powell running out of dollar bills to put in the Atlanta Feds swear jar ? We wonder if Powell now still owes Bostic a dollar for using the word while retiring it. More importantly , a lot of folks will now surely be looking forward to know what the Fed really thinks ! For example, did Powell mean to say that the effects of the temporary price rises will remain and not fade after a while?

Futures Surge After Powell-Driven Rout Proves To Be "Transitory" Heading into yesterday''s painful close to one of the ugliest months since March 2020, which saw a huge forced liquidation rebalance with more than $8 billion in Market on Close orders, we said that while we are seeing "forced selling dump into the close today" this would be followed by "forced Dec 1 buying frontrunning after the close." Forced selling dump into the close today. Forced Dec 1 buying frontrunning after the close zerohedge (@zerohedge) November 30, 2021 And just as expected, despite yesterday''s dramatic hawkish pivot by Powell, who said it was time to retire the word transitory in describing the inflation outlook (the same word the Fed used hundreds of times earlier in 2021 sparking relentless mockery from this website for being clueless as usual) while also saying the U.S. central bank would consider bringing forward plans for tapering its bond buying program at its next meeting in two weeks, the frontrunning of new monthly inflows is in full force with S&P futures rising over 1.2%, Nasdaq futures up 1.3%, and Dow futures up 0.9%, recovering almost all of Tuesdays decline.

US tightens travel rules as more countries secure borders to quell Omicron
08:38am, Wednesday, 01'st Dec 2021 Business Recorder
WASHINGTON/TOKYO: Air travellers to the United States will face tougher COVID-19 testing rules, while more countries tightened their borders amid uncertainty around the virulence of the Omicron variant and its ability to evade vaccine protection. Japan and Hong Kong said they would expand travel curbs, Malaysia temporarily banned travellers from countries deemed at risk, while Australia braced for more cases of the coronavirus variant after at least two people visited several locations in its biggest city while likely infectious. In an attempt to stave off hasty border curbs, the World Health Organization (WHO) urged countries to apply "an evidence-informed and risk-based approach" to travel measures, saying "blanket travel bans will not prevent the international spread, and they place a heavy burden on lives and livelihoods". Investors remained on edge on Wednesday, even as financial markets came off lows plumbed a day earlier following remarks by the CEO of Moderna that raised questions about the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines against Omicron.
The EU Could Approve a Vaccine against Omicron in 3-4 Months
07:48am, Wednesday, 01'st Dec 2021 Novinite
The European drug regulator announced on Tuesday that it would approve vaccines adapted to Covid''s new version, Omicron, within three to four months if necessary, but existing drugs would continue to provide protection, Reuters reported. Speaking to the European Parliament, European Medicines Agency (EMA) Executive Director Emery Cook said it was not known whether drug manufacturers would have to change their vaccines to protect against Omicron, but the EMA was preparing for that possibility. "If there was a need to change existing vaccines, we could be able to approve them within three to four months," she said. "Companies that adapt their wording to include the new sequence () will then have to show that the production system works, then they will have to do some clinical trials to find that it actually works in practice. The EMA clarified in a separate statement that the review will begin when drug manufacturers decide they need to change the vaccine and start working on it. " We expect to receive smaller packages (data) that will reduce the evaluation time," said the EMA, based on the guidelines in force since February for each update of a variant-specific vaccine.
