OPS calls for review as CBN commences e-invoicing directive for exporters
10:25am, Wednesday, 02'nd Feb 2022 BusinessDay
The Nigerian organized private sector (OPS) has urged the Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN ) to review its decision to commence an electronic invoice (e-invoice) for all import and export operations from February 1st with the aim of achieving the accurate value of foreign traded items in and out of the country. The OPS comprising of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) commended the directive and gave reasons why it must be reviewed for proper and effective implementation. Segun Ajayi-Kadir, director-general, MAN, noted that some provisions of the directive such as the disapproval of form M and Nigeria Export Proceeds Form (form NXP) that bears a unit price in excess of 2.5 percent of the verified global checkmate price will defeat the opportunity of exporters to derive higher value for their exports. What happens if some companies are able to negotiate better prices due to their scale of order and are able to get competitive lower prices?

NIMASA N50bn floating dockyard to begin operations in March
04:23pm, Friday, 28'th Jan 2022 BusinessDay
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), said it has perfected the arrangement to ensure that the over N50 billion floating dockyard acquired in 2018, begins operations before the end of the first quarter of this year. Bashir Jamoh, the director-general of the NIMASA, who disclosed this in Lagos on Friday during a media parley to review the agency’s activities in the last one year, said the operations of the dockyard was partly delayed by the long process involved in the privatisation of government property. He further said that the floating dock will be handled through a public-private partnership arrangement and by the middle of February, NIMASA should be able to get the final ‘no objection’. By beginning operations, it is estimated that Nigeria will be saving about N36 billion loss to capital flight on yearly basis due to lack of dry-docking facilities as it costs between $300,000 and $500,000 to dry-dock a vessel in the international market, hence the need for more dry-docking facilities in-country.
