Dollar Tree Inc. announced a new board on Tuesday, adding Richard Dreiling as executive chair, Paul Hilal, founder and chief executive of Mantle Ridge LP, as vice chair, and five new directors. Five directors will continue on, including Dollar Tree''s Chief Executive Michael Witynski, and six directors will retire. Dreiling is currently a Lowe''s Cos. board member, and retired from the CEO position at Dollar General Corp. in 2015. The board will comprise 12 directors at the 2022 annual meeting. Dollar Tree is also creating a new Finance committee, restructure the Nominating, Governance and Sustainability and Compensation Committees, and adding a separate committee for sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Dollar Tree announced its most recent quarterly results last week, missing on sales but completing the transition to a $1.25 price point in the U.S. Dollar Tree stock rose 1.4% in Tuesday premarket trading and has run up 30.3% over the past year. The S&P 500 index has gained 9.9% over the last 12 months.
Both Target and Dollar Stores reported mixed results for Q4 2021. Target's financial metrics look much superior to Dollar Tree's.
