From musicians pulling their music to a high-profile podcaster pausing their exclusive show , Spotify is under attack from all sides. Furore over Joe Rogans podcast and Spotifys subsequent misinformation policies and actions has come both internally and externally. Much of the backlash is warranted as Spotify hasnt been up front about the content of Rogans podcast, or misinformation in general. And the lack of transparency is why the companys current issues are much bigger than one massively popular creator. By now, youve likely heard something about the Joe Rogan saga. The popular podcast host has been controversial for years, but criticism ramped up after a December 31 episode featuring physician and biochemist Dr. Robert Malone . While speaking to Rogan, Dr. Malone made a number of unfounded claims about COVID-19 vaccines, including that mass formation psychosis led many in the US to take the jab. After the episode was posted, hundreds of doctors, nurses, scientists and educators sent a letter to Spotify urging it to create a clear misinformation policy and take "responsibility to mitigate the spread of such content.

Conservative technology mogul and billionaire investor Peter Thiel has announced that he is stepping down from the board for Facebook and Instagram''s parent company, Meta. Thiel, who is considered one of the earliest investors in Facebook, will continue to serve in the capacity of board director until Meta''s upcoming annual shareholders'' meeting. At that point, he will not seek to be re-elected. Data is central to the ad business that generates nearly all of the company’s billion of dollars in revenue, and frameworks that have overseen the transfer of information from the continent are now in limbo. “We have absolutely no desire and no plans to withdraw from Europe, but the simple reality is that Meta, and many other businesses, organisations and services, rely on data transfers between the EU and the US in order to operate global services,” the firm said in a statement. The crucial “Privacy Shield” online data arrangement between Europe and the United States was invalidated in July 2020 in a top EU court decision that threw transatlantic big tech into legal uncertainty.

No offence to Ottawa, but it’s not the most exciting place in the world. Over the past couple of weeks, however, the Canadian capital has been embroiled in drama: hundreds of truckers, ostensibly protesting against vaccine mandates, have brought the city to a standstill.
