NYC Firms Hire Off-Duty Police Amid Soaring Violent Crime

10:20pm, Friday, 25'th Feb 2022 Zero Hedge
NYC Firms Hire Off-Duty Police Amid Soaring Violent Crime Rather than making the borough safer, the newly-elected Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg ( funded by George Soros ) has implemented new procedures to keep criminals out of jail and on the streets by downgrading burglary, armed robbery, and drug dealing from felonies to just misdemeanors. New progressive policing has sparked a wave of violent crime this year, forcing businesses to hire more off-duty police officers. Bloomberg reports the number of hours off-duty officers standing watch in front of Manhattan office buildings, retail shops, and other buildings has recently soared as crime worsens. New York City has long administered its own program for off-duty officers to stand guard outside private businesses — badge, gun and all — and taken a 10% cut of the fees. But after the pandemic hit, spending for the paid detail program shot up to its highest amount in more than a decade. The money New York derives from the program jumped by nearly 70% to $3.2 million in fiscal year 2021 from four years before, according to data from the city''s Independent Budget Office.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA this season. Not only have they failed to live up to the hype on the court but also, there are reports of discontent within the organization. Apparently, LeBron James isn''t happy with Rob Pelinka''s passivity leading to the trade deadline, and he''s made everybody around the league know that with passive-aggressive remarks. LeBron Is The Most Powerful Man On The Lakers Recently, Bill Oram of The Athletic reported that James has kept the Lakers in a headlock, going as far as to state that he''s now more powerful than Kobe Bryant ever was: "As important as Bryant was to the Lakers, sources inside the organization have long said that not even the legendary Black Mamba wielded as much power within the organization as James now has," reported Oram.LeBron''s Future Is Uncertain Most people predicted that Los Angeles was going to be James'' final stop in the NBA. Now, that doesn''t seem like a certain thing anymore: "That illusion of permanence has now been shattered, thanks not only to a series of passive-aggressive missives from James that make it clear he was frustrated by the Lakers inaction at the trade deadline, but also, in a conversation with The Athletic’s Jason Lloyd, entertaining the prospect of returning to Cleveland and explicitly stating his final year will be spent playing alongside his son — wherever that may be," Oram added.A War Could Be Brewing In L.A.
Automakers’ history of taking fat subsidies and overpromising job growth make some analysts skeptical of the deal In September, Ford stunned Michigan when it announced plans to build two massive electric vehicle (EV) plants in the nation’s southeast instead of its midwestern back yard. Fearing the future of the automotive industry was leaving Detroit, the state’s political class swung into action. Four months later, lawmakers responded by handing a staggering new subsidy deal to GM that they claimed would fortify the Motor City’s standing as the world’s auto capitol during industry electrification: In exchange for $1bn in tax incentives, the Detroit-based automaker promised $7bn in investment for new battery and EV plants that could create 4,000 new jobs.
