"Greedy" Corporations Are Causing Inflation... Or Are They?
07:46pm, Friday, 25'th Feb 2022 Zero Hedge
"Greedy" Corporations Are Causing Inflation… Or Are They? Authored by Michael Maharrey via SchiffGold.com, Greedy corporations are causing inflation by jacking up prices and enjoying record profits. This has become an increasingly popular talking point on the political left. Elizabeth Warren has pushed this narrative hard. And it’s patently absurd. One simply has to reason through the claim to uncover the absurdity. If corporations can willy-nilly raise prices and enjoy “excessive” profits, why don’t they do it all the time? Did corporations suddenly get greedy in 2021? And why did the Federal Reserve spend a decade fretting about inflation being “too low” as it struggled to hit its 2% target? Was there not enough corporate greed before coronavirus? It’s pretty clear there has to be something else going on. But corporate greed is a convenient explanation, and the narrative continues to grow because the average American doesn’t understand inflation or basic corporate accounting. That includes a lot of the people writing about inflation in mainstream and left-leaning corporate media.

Russia''s invasion of Ukraine puts wheat supplies at risk
11:11pm, Wednesday, 23'rd Feb 2022 Axios
A key ingredient in bread, cereal and baked goods is facing the prospect of supply disruptions as Russia barrels down on Ukraine. Why it matters: Russia and Ukraine were two of the top five largest exporters of wheat before the pandemic, leading experts to fear that a war could disrupt supplies at a time when the market for the agricultural commodity is already stressed. "A prolonged conflict would create bread shortages [and increase consumer prices] this fall," Alan Holland, CEO of sourcing technology company Keelvar, told CNBC. The big picture: Global wheat supplies plunged to a five-year low in 2021, while prices hit an all-time high, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture . Poor growing conditions in the Northern Hemisphere have strained wheat markets in recent years. Threat level: General Mills — the maker of Wheaties cereal — warned Tuesday that it has been facing "acute supply shortages on its refrigerated dough, pizza and hot snacks," though it did not specify whether wheat was a primary reason.

From drinking coffee on an empty stomach to the merits of fasting, have we been getting breakfast all wrong? I think everyone should consider skipping breakfast as an experiment, says Professor Tim Spector, author of the recently reissued Spoon-Fed: Why Almost Everything Weve Been Told About Food Is Wrong . Kraft Heinz plans more price hikes as sales, earnings beat estimates
04:30pm, Wednesday, 16'th Feb 2022 AOL
By Deborah Mary Sophia and Mehr Bedi (Reuters) -Kraft Heinz Co said on Wednesday it would raise the prices of its snacks and condiments further to counter soaring costs of raw materials and transportation, after posting quarterly earnings above market expectations. Shares of the Chicago-based company rose as much as about 6% in morning trading. Packaged food makers were among the biggest pandemic winners last year as stuck-at-home consumers stockpiled on frozen meals, sauces and soups. A strained supply chain, however, has driven up freight and labor expenses and aggravated problems for companies like Kraft, Conagra and Kellogg that are grappling with surging costs of grains, meat and edible oils. "Kraft Heinz is doing a better job of navigating rising costs and driving demand than we thought," Edward Jones analyst John Boylan said, adding that the company has laid a good foundation by lowering costs and divesting sluggish businesses. Kraft, whose brands include Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Heinz ketchup, said it raised prices by 3.8 percentage points in the fourth quarter when demand for its products was also robust.

Target Date Funds: How to Evaluate If Yours Is a Good Fit
09:42am, Monday, 14'th Feb 2022 Kiplinger
Fabulously wealthy people can walk into a car dealership or clothing store and buy a custom-made product whether they need it or not. But assuming you’re not Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk, the decision to spend more on a bespoke alternative to what is on the showroom floor needs to be carefully weighed. And in the world of 401(k) plans, what factors should you consider before deciding to purchase a customized asset allocation for your plan balances? For participants who want a do-it-for-me approach to allocating their plan balances, more than 80% of 401(k) plans now offer a suite of target date funds (TDFs) . These are prepackaged, age-appropriate investment strategies that are intended to help support post-employment income needs while reducing investment risk near and through retirement. This is accomplished through use of a “glide path” in which the fund’s asset allocation changes over time based on the participant’s retirement age. SEE MORE The 4 Phases of Retirement Each target date fund makes certain assumptions about the average participant: These include assumptions about other benefits, such as Social Security, risk preferences, salary levels, saving behaviors, work spans, life spans and post-retirement spending behavior.
