05:58pm, Wednesday, 09'th Mar 2022 Kuwait Times
RIYADH: Air defense systems have been front and center at Saudi Arabia’s first defense show as drone and missile attacks increase in the energy-rich Gulf. Deadly strikes on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates claimed by Yemeni rebels have been the talk of shows held in the two countries in recent weeks. Six hundred companies from about 40 countries showed off the latest military technology at the World Defense Show in the Saudi capital Riyadh this week. “There is very much high interest in the region for the capabilities to defeat drones and IEDs,” said Bobby Strawbridge of US firm Allen-Vanguard, which makes equipment to block radio-controlled weaponry. Saudi Arabia has since 2015 led an international coalition supporting Yemen’s government against Houthi Shiite rebels. It has regularly come under attack along its southern border with Yemen. Visitors to the Riyadh show are zooming in on anti-drone and air defense systems, according to Tomas Kossowski, chief operating officer for Advanced Protection Systems.

How The Narcotic Of Defense Spending Undermines A Sensible Grand Strategy
03:30am, Tuesday, 08'th Mar 2022 Zero Hedge
How The Narcotic Of Defense Spending Undermines A Sensible Grand Strategy Authored by Franklin Spinney via Counterpunch.org, The Military-Industrial-Congressional-Complex’s (MICC) grand-strategic chickens are coming home to roost big time. While war is bad, the Russo-Ukrainian War has the champagne corks quietly popping in the Pentagon, on K Street, in the defense industry, and throughout the halls of Congress. Taxpayers are going to be paying for their party for a long time. It is no accident that the United States is on the cusp of the Second Cold War. Future historians may well view the last 30 years as a case study in the institutional survival of the American Military – Industrial – Congressional Complex (MICC), together with its supporting blob now saturating the media, think tanks, academia, and the intelligence community. Perhaps, these future historians will come also to view the Global War on Terror (GWOT) as the bridging operation that greased the transition to Cold War II by keeping defense budgets at Cold War levels after Cold War I ended.

01:40am, Friday, 04'th Mar 2022 Zero Hedge
Russia Halts Rocket Engine Supply To US As ISS Partnership Threatened Russia''s State Space Corporation Roscosmos halted deliveries of rocket engines to the US following a series of devastating financial sanctions by the US, according to Russian state-owned news agency TASS . "Today, we have made a decision to halt the deliveries of rocket engines produced by NPO Energomash to the United States . Let me remind you that these deliveries had been quite intensive somewhere since the mid-1990s," Roscosmos Chief Dmitry Rogozin said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV on Thursday. United Launch Alliance (ULA), a joint venture between Boeing and Lockheed Martin, uses Russian RD-180 engines to power Atlas V launch vehicle''s main propulsion systems. ULA has been developing a new rocket called Vulcan, which would use American-made engines. Those engines, called BE-4s, are being developed by Jeff Bezos'' Blue Origin and are almost ready for testing. ULA CEO Tory Bruno told The Verge , "the very first Vulcan flight, slated to take place this year." Northrop Grumman Corp. also uses Russian engines on its Antares rocket to lift a spacecraft packed with cargo to the International Space Station (ISS).

The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, announced the new policy in an interview with the Russia 24 TV channel. “Today we have made a decision to halt the deliveries of rocket engines produced by NPO Energomash to the United States,” Rogozin said in the interview, according to Russia’s state press site Tass . “Let me remind you that these deliveries had been quite intensive somewhere since the mid-1990s.” Rogozin also added: “Let them fly on something else, their broomsticks, I don’t know what,” according to Reuters . “Today we have made a decision to halt the deliveries of rocket engines.” The decision would primarily affect two companies in the US: the United Launch Alliance, which is a key launch provider for NASA and the US Department of Defense, and Northrop Grumman, which periodically launches cargo to the International Space Station for NASA.
