The company, in its annual report, said it is going to achieve this by giving customers what they want and need by charging services that are convenient, reliable and easy to use. Andrew Mackenzie, Shell’s bard chair, said, “Shell currently operates almost 90,000 electric vehicle charge points globally. We aim to increase this to more than 500,000 by 2025. He added that “To achieve this, we must give customers what they want and need: charging services that are convenient, reliable and easy to use.” In November 2021, for example, the company signed a strategic co-operation agreement with electric vehicle company NIO aimed at making charging easier for customers around the world. Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA ) by virtue of its first-mover advantage has maintained its pole position in the EV industry. The field, however, is getting crowded with the passing of each day, given government mandates, environmental concerns and the allure of the massive market opportunity. Tesla has been the benchmark for all the late entrants and the legacy automakers, which have charted out ambitious plans for transitioning into EVs. As recently as last week, Stellantis N.V. (NYSE: STLA ), formed by the merger of Fiat Chrysler and French PSA Group, said it will eventually take a shot at Tesla''s EV leadership. Here are a few companies that see themselves challenging Tesla: Stellantis Sees Healthy Rivalry Stellantis is confident of catching up with Tesla in the next couple of years, CEO Carlos Tavares said in a televised Q&A session with reporters Friday. ""I am very confident, I am trying not to be arrogant," the CEO said. "It''s going to be a very healthy competition." Travares also underlined the importance of setting up of charging infrastructure in Europe and the U.S. to catalyze increased EV adoption.
The EV space turned in a mixed performance in the week ending March 11, with some second-rung EV manufacturers and charging stocks rebounding from their losses. Shares of Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA ), however, reversed course and ended the week in the red. The worst performers were the Chinese stocks, as investors fled from them amid fears of delisting in the U.S. Here are the key events that happened in the EV space during the week: Tesla Hikes Prices, Voted Best Luxury Brand: Grappling with rising material cost, which was exacerbated by the Ukraine war, Tesla was left with no option but to announce another round of price hikes for its more affordable Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, both in China and the U.S. Information available on Tesla''s website shows that the Model Y and Model 3 Long Range versions are now dearer by $1,000 each. The company also hiked the prices of some Model Y SUVs and Model 3 sedans sold in China. Data released by the China Passenger Car Association showed that Tesla weathered the market-wide softness in China better than others.
