The Morning After: Nintendo’s Switch turns five
12:15pm, Friday, 04'th Mar 2022 Engadget
Nintendo’s return to form, after the miss that was the Wii U, has been impressive. The Switch, equal parts home console and handheld, has been a huge hit for the company and recently surpassed the Wii to become Nintendo’s best-selling console. The hardware — underpowered in specs compared to the competition — has proved flexible and powerful enough, and Nintendo has crushed it with the games. With Zelda: Breath of the Wild , which landed shortly after the console launched, players got not only the best Zelda game in years but arguably (don''t come for me) the best Zelda game. Period. To celebrate its fifth birthday, we’ve pulled together the best games that have cemented the Switch as the versatile, family-friendly console that’s still going strong. Who needs a Switch Pro? The handheld-only variant of the popular Switch normally sells for $199.99, but Woot is offering it today for $189.99 if you’re an Amazon Prime subscriber. That $10 discount may not sound like much, but Nintendo hardware sales are quite uncommon, with sales on the Switch Lite being even rarer. This deal is only for today or until it sells out. What’s even sweeter with this deal is that all five colors are on offer: turquoise, yellow, coral, blue, and gray. So you can pick whatever vibrant Switch Lite fits your fancy and kick back with some excellent portable games. While sales of the Nintendo Switch have continued skyrocketing during the pandemic, it may be easy to overlook… Continue reading…

Apologies for the late arrival of todays newsletter; I was unexpectedly stranded with my family for several days last week because of Storm Eunice. Naturally this was the one time in the past five years that I have travelled without a Nintendo Switch, so I couldnt even turn this into an opportunity to introduce my five-year-old to Mario Kart, a parenting moment I have been looking forward to since he was born. Sadly the last couple of times Ive tried to introduce him to games have not gone well.
