The regions reopening stocks such as restaurants, department stores, train operators and travel shares also suffered some losses. Oil prices bounced $3 a barrel to recoup some of Friday''s rout, while the safe haven yen, Swiss franc and 10Y Treasury took a breather after its run higher. Moderna shares jumped as much as 12% in pre-market trading after Chief Medical Officer Paul Burton said he suspects the new omicron coronavirus variant may elude current vaccines, and if so, a reformulated shot could be available early in the new year.

Bulgarian Prof. Kantardzhiev: Probability that Vaccines Dont Work at all with Omicron is Very Small
07:34am, Monday, 29'th Nov 2021 Novinite
Existing coronavirus vaccines are unlikely to not work at all with the new variant Omicron. But they may work less. This was stated by Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev on bTV. He reminded that the EC has signed an agreement with Pfizer that if a dangerous mutation of the virus occurs, the manufacturer is ready to provide an adapted vaccine in 100 days. Omicron has been identified as a concern for several reasons. First, whether it spreads faster than the other variants; second - whether it is caught by the current tests; third, whether it is capable of immunological escape. The third reason scares me the most , stressed Prof. Kantardzhiev. We must have a readiness to examine more people and, very importantly, to send materials for sequencing suspicious people quickly, the professor believes. More than 50 mutations in the strain are known - this is scary. My call is to wear masks, not to gather unreasonably many people in one place. "Young people with two vaccines will be protected in the coming years.

Will Vaccines Stop the Omicron Variant
06:50am, Monday, 29'th Nov 2021 Novinite
Will the vaccines stop the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, the New York Times asks. The new version raises new concerns, because if it turns out that the existing vaccines do not affect it, they will have to be modified, the American publication notes. Amid disconnections from South Africa and fears of a new global wave of coronavirus over the weekend, scientists began frantic work to collect data on the new variant of Coronvirus Omicron, its features and, above all, how effective the vaccines will be against him. The initial information paints a vague picture. It is possible that the variant is more easily transmitted and easier to avoid the body''s immune reactions, both in the case of vaccination and in natural infection, compared to previous variants of the virus, experts said. Vaccines may continue to provide adequate protection in terms of preventing severe forms of covid and death, but booster doses may be needed to ensure protection for most people. Manufacturers of the two most effective vaccines, Pfizer / Biontech and Moderna, are preparing to modify their preparations if necessary, the New York Times points out.
Britain to convene Meeting of G-7 Health Ministers over Omicron
06:43am, Monday, 29'th Nov 2021 Novinite
Britain has announced that it will convene an emergency meeting of G-7 health ministers tomorrow to discuss developments in the new coronavirus variant, Omicron, Reuters reported. The British government announced new measures yesterday in an attempt to slow down the spread of the option. The rules for those arriving in the country have been tightened, and wearing masks is mandatory in retail outlets and public transport in England. Some students will also have to wear masks in the common areas of the schools. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called for precautionary measures and swift action, DPA reported. "We take the Omicron option very seriously and we know we are racing against time," Von der Layen said during a visit to Latvia. She added that not everything is known yet, as scientists and manufacturers will need two to three weeks to get a full idea of the strength of the option. The general rule is: "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst," she said. She said the EU was "safe" when it came to vaccines.
