Parents must approve children being vaccinated - Tufton
07:01am, Friday, 26'th Nov 2021 Jamaica Observer
MANDEVILLE, Manchester - Health and Wellness Minister Dr Christopher Tufton yesterday reiterated that the Government''s position is that parental approval must be given in relation to COVID-19 vaccines being administered to children. "We are deliberating and ensuring that is the case, but no decision has been taken around whether we will go ahead without that kind of consent," he told journalists at Mandeville Regional Hospital. Tufton was responding to yesterday''s Jamaica Observer front-page story which reported that some parents and their children are at odds over COVID-19 vaccines being given to minors. Belair High School Principal Lawrence Rowe had told the Observer during a vaccination blitz at Bishop Gibson High School for Girls that parents were preventing their children from taking the vaccine, even in cases where the children expressed a desire to take the jab. "You have the unique situation of students wanting to become vaccinated but their parents are hesitant to give the permission, so that''s a challenge that we face at Belair," Rowe said. "I have had my students reach out to me seeking assistance to become vaccinated but their parents are not giving the permission and, based on the law, they have to give permission for those students below the age of 18," Rowe added.
More questions than answers
07:01am, Friday, 26'th Nov 2021 Jamaica Observer
This week''s arrival of 200,000 doses of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine from the People''s Republic of China reinforces the Government''s position that vaccine shortage is no longer a problem. In the handover ceremony, Prime Minister Andrew Holness reiterated the numerous calls for Jamaicans to get vaccinated to "protect themselves and others, as we adjust to living with the virus". The problem is that many people have seemingly stopped listening. While upwards of one million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, hesitancy remains a major challenge. Available evidence suggesting that countries with high levels of vaccination have much lower levels of hospitalisation, serious illness, and death as a consequence of COVID-19 is apparently not having the effect logic would suggest it should. In yesterday''s lead story in this newspaper, Mr Lawrence Rowe, principal of Belair High School, highlighted the extent of the problem in the education sector as a direct result of vaccine hesitancy among teachers and parents.

Futures, Global Stocks Tumble Amid Sudden Fears Over "Dramatically" New Covid Strain With "Extremely High Number" Of Mutations

Futures, Global Stocks Tumble Amid Sudden Fears Over "Dramatically" New Covid Strain With "Extremely High Number" Of Mutations Futures are sliding on Thursday night when, with most US traders snoring in a tryptophan coma, the world is suddenly freaking out, and algos are hitting bids, amid fears that a new coronavirus strain detected in South Africa, known as B.1.1529, reportedly carries an "extremely high number" of mutations and is clearly very different from previous incarnations, which may drive further waves of disease by evading the bodys defenses South African scientists said. Medics at an infectious-disease unit in South Africa, where a new strain of COVID is spreading quickly Translation: a new wave of restrictions, more lockdowns, and - eventually - trillions in new stimmies are coming an outcome so "unexpected", we rhetorically asked if this was the endgame just one week ago. Is this next lockdown going to result in more stimmies? zerohedge (@zerohedge) November 18, 2021 According to the Guardian, only 10 cases in three countries have been confirmed by genomic sequencing, but that is more than enough for the pharma-government complex to set the wheels of futures lockdowns in motion and, according to the liberal outlet, "the variant has sparked serious concern among some researchers because a number of the mutations may help the virus evade immunity." According to reports, the new B.1.1.529 variant has 32 mutations in the spike protein, the part of the virus that most vaccines use to prime the immune system against Covid.
