The best video doorbell camera to buy right now

03:00pm, Tuesday, 01'st Mar 2022 The Verge
Illustration by Kristen Radtke / The Verge, Shutterstock We pick the best brainy buzzers A video doorbell is one of the most useful smart home devices you can buy. With one gadget you can update your front door’s communication skills from a 1980s landline to a modern smartphone. A motion-activated camera with a microphone, speaker, and doorbell attached, a smart doorbell sends alerts to a smartphone to show you who’s calling without you needing to open the door, or even be at home. Whether you’re tucked up on the couch, hard at work in a home or actual office, or sunning on a beach in the Bahamas, a video doorbell keeps you in touch with what’s happening on your doorstep. I have tested more than 30 smart doorbell cameras and while there’s no one size fits all — like a smartphone, it’s a personal choice — I have thoughts on which are the best of the best, and which work well for specific use cases. My top pick is the $250 Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 . A true wired doorbell with sharp resolution, an all-encompassing view, accurate people and package detection, and excellent motion detection, you can’t go wrong with this doorbell.

The UN''s New Climate Change Report Should Make You Mad As Hell

10:51pm, Monday, 28'th Feb 2022 The Daily Beast
Photo Illustration by The Daily Beast/Shutterstock The largest, most detailed climate change report in history was released today, clocking in at 3,675 pages , written by 270 researchers for the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Program on Climate Change (IPCC). With the invasion of Ukraine justifiably dominating the news, the report may not make many headlines. But it should cause you to lose sleep tonight, especially if you have children, and even if you’ve been numbed by decades of gloom and doom when it comes to global climate disruption. In fact, as someone who’s been writing on climate change since 1998 , I think it’s the most important 3,675 pages to be published this century. Not because it will influence the politicians in the pockets of the fossil fuel industry (i.e. the entire Republican Party plus Sen. Joe Manchin ) or those bamboozled by Fox News —it won’t. It’s important because it stands as a record of what scientists know to be true, and what our leaders have failed to bring about.
