Tyson''s profit blows past expectations
12:51pm, Monday, 07'th Feb 2022 MarketWatch
Tyson Foods Inc. shares jumped 5.4% in Monday premarket trading after the meat processor reported first-quarter profit that far exceeded Street expectations. Net income totaled $1.12 billion, or $3.07 per share, up from $467 million, or $1.28 per share, last year. Adjusted EPS of $2.87 blew past the FactSet consensus for $1.93. First-quarter sales of beef, pork, chicken and prepared foods were all up, though volumes fell on beef and prepared food. Tyson said the beef volume decline was due to supply constraints and labor problems. Prepared food declines were due to the divestiture of the pet treat business. For the full fiscal year, Tyson is guiding for sales on the high end of $49 billion to $51 billion. The FactSet consensus is for $50.54 billion. The company has launched a new "productivity program" that aims for $300 million to $400 million in saving this fiscal year, and $1 billion in savings by fiscal 2024.
