Hindustan Unilever announces key changes to management committee

FMCG major Hindustan Unilever on Wednesday said it has appointed Madhusudhan Rao and Deepak Subramanian to its management committee. Rao has been appointed as Executive Director, Beauty & Wellbeing and Personal Care, while Subramanian has been named as Executive Director, Home Care. Rao takes over from Priya Nair, who will move into her new global role as Chief Marketing Officer for Beauty & Wellbeing. Similarly, Subramanian takes over from Prabha Narasimhan, who has decided to leave the company to pursue an external opportunity. Rao is currently Executive Vice President Home and Hygiene, Unilever. Ukraine War: McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Starbucks Stop Russian Sales

Consumer giants including McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and Starbucks have joined the list of firms halting business in Russia due to the invasion in Ukraine. McDonald’s said it was temporarily closing its roughly 850 restaurants in Russia, while Starbucks also said its 100 coffee shops would shut. McDonald’s said there was “needless human suffering unfolding in Ukraine”, and Coca-Cola called the war “tragic”. All three firms said they would continue to pay their staff. McDonald’s chief executive Chris Kempczinski said in a memo to staff: “The conflict in Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis in Europe has caused unspeakable suffering to innocent people.” The company said it was “impossible to predict” when it would reopen. “As a system, we join the world in condemning aggression and violence and praying for peace.” Companies have been under pressure to act as Russian violence against civilians has escalated. #BoycottMcDonalds and #BoycottCocaCola had been trending on Twitter on Monday and over the weekend respectively.

The Chicago-based burger giant said it will temporarily close 850 stores but continue paying its 62,000 employees in Russia “who have poured their heart and soul into our McDonald’s brand.” Kempczinski said it''s impossible to know when the company will be able to reopen its stores. “The situation is extraordinarily challenging for a global brand like ours, and there are many considerations,” Kempczinski wrote in the letter. McDonald''s works with hundreds of Russian suppliers, for example, and serves millions of customers each day.
