Google's parent company, Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG, GOOGL), is set to release its second-quarter earnings after Wednesday's market close, offering a fresh perspective on how big tech is capitalizing on artificial intelligence.

Wall Street has recently shown some hesitation toward the AI sector, wary of the hefty investments hyperscalers are making in data centers and advanced chips. At the same time, these companies highlight a recurring theme: demand for AI computing power is exceeding their current capacity.

Alphabet's Google is in a tight race to roll out more advanced AI models quickly, with pressure mounting to avoid letting competitors gain an edge. Rumors circulated about a delay in Google's Gemini 3.5 Pro model due to performance concerns, but the company disputed that, asserting active testing and engagement with partners including the U.S. government.

In the last three months, Alphabet's stock has gained about 4%, outperforming peers such as Amazon, which is mostly flat, Meta, down nearly 6%, and Microsoft, off 5%. This resilience comes amidst a competitive environment where every day counts for AI innovation.

Adding fuel to its AI efforts, Alphabet reportedly is working on a new chip named Frozen v2 designed to streamline operation of the Gemini AI models, potentially slashing processing times and improving efficiency, a move that could bear on the company's AI supremacy.

Expectations for the quarter include earnings per share around $2.95 and revenues close to $117 billion. Revenues excluding traffic acquisition costs are projected to be about $101.5 billion, a notable increase from $96.4 billion a year ago.

Google's Cloud Platform remains a standout, anticipated to post $22.4 billion in revenue-a robust 64% jump from last year's Q2. This surge underscores the continued demand for cloud services powered by AI capabilities.

Meanwhile, Alphabet's remaining performance obligations, essentially contracts yet to be fulfilled, are expected to have skyrocketed to more than $488 billion, reflecting extensive commitments and potential future revenue streams.
