Assurant Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Assurant reported a very strong start to 2026 with the first quarter being the strongest in company history, driven by record earnings in Global Lifestyle. Key drivers: Connected Living delivered double-digit growth (18% EBITDA) supported by new and expanded mobile partnerships (including T-Mobile/U.S. Cellular migration, new reverse logistics wins, expanded Xfinity Mobile plan and additional Verizon prepaid brands), nearly 69 million devices protected, and growing trade-in/reverse logistics volumes. Global Automotive improved significantly (23% EBITDA growth, supported by better loss experience, higher investment income and a real estate JV gain). Global Housing produced solid underlying results (Q1 adjusted EBITDA $237M including $24M of cats; $261M excluding cats) with continued lender-placed and PMC momentum; the company expects lender-placed policy and premium growth and a full-year combined ratio in the low–mid 80s (excluding prior-year development) and a 2026 cat assumption of $185M. Reinsurance placement was positive: 2026 cat reinsurance premiums are estimated at ~$180M (down from ~$200M in 2025) with robust coverage towers. Capital deployment: liquidity of $836M at quarter end, returned $169M to shareholders in Q1 (including $125M buybacks) and increased full-year buyback target to $300–$350M; management accelerated repurchases given valuation. Outlook: management raised the 2026 outlook — now expecting low-single-digit growth in adjusted EBITDA and EPS (both excluding cats) but, excluding lower favorable prior-year reserve development, underlying growth is expected to be high single digits; Global Lifestyle expected to lead growth (~10%). Management is investing in AI, automation and scaled infrastructure to drive customer experience, productivity and margin improvement, and is progressing with Assurant Home Warranty through a new Compass partnership.
