Atlantic Union Bankshares Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Atlantic Union reported a solid Q1 2026 driven by the completed Sandy Spring integration and underlying operating strength. Adjusted operating EPS was $0.89 and adjusted operating returns were strong (adjusted ROTCE 19.6%, adjusted ROA 1.41%, adjusted efficiency ratio 49.9%). Loans ended at $27.9B with quarterly loan growth ~2.2% annualized and robust pipelines (record construction & equipment finance pipelines), and management expects year-end loans of $29B–$30B. Total deposits were $30.4B, down modestly as higher-cost broker deposits were intentionally reduced (broker deposits now ~2% of total). Reported NIM declined to 3.85% due to lower accretion; core NIM (ex-accretion) improved 4 bps to 3.45%. Management lowered accretion/PAA guidance to about $140M–$150M (midpoint ~$145M) which, along with some deposit rate competition, trimmed the NII outlook slightly. Credit metrics remain healthy: annualized NCOs ~2 bps in Q1, nonperforming assets 0.36% of loans, ACL ~115 bps of loans (methodology enhanced to three loan segments). Expense discipline continues; adjusted operating noninterest expense guidance updated for strategic investments (including North Carolina branch expansion). Capital is strong — Basel III endgame draft would be a tailwind (estimated CET1 benefit ~65–75 bps), and management expects to reach a CET1 ~10.5% level by coming out of Q2 and pursue board authorization for buybacks thereafter. Leadership transition: Alex Dodd is the new CFO (8 days in), Rob Gorman remains through Sept. 30 as advisor. Overall, management expects to demonstrate the franchise’s earnings power in 2026 and deliver top–quartile returns for peers.
