Nikon Spons ADR Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q3 2025
Nikon reported declines in revenue and operating profit for Q1–Q3 (Apr–Dec) and Q3 (Oct–Dec), driven mainly by weaker semiconductor-related sales in the Precision Equipment and Components businesses plus one-time costs (≈¥5.0B for HQ relocation; ≈¥2.1B in Q3 including restructuring and impairment). Imaging Products remained a bright spot: camera unit and lens sales rose, new models (Z6III, Z50II, Z9 technology) supported stable margins. Precision Equipment saw fewer semiconductor lithography system recognitions (6 units vs prior year) though FPD lithography unit sales increased; some semiconductor installations were pushed to Q4. Healthcare revenue rose but operating profit fell due to Life Science softness and higher R&D/upfront investment; some logistics delays pushed sales to Q4. Components revenue and profit were cut due to delayed recovery in EUV and related markets; Digital Manufacturing (SLM Solutions) grew revenue with record quarterly orders and aims for EBITDA breakeven this fiscal year and profitability for the unit next year. Full-year guidance was modestly trimmed: revenue down ¥5B and operating profit down ¥3B (Components weakness), but profit attributable to owners remains unchanged at ¥16B and the annual dividend at ¥55. A ¥30B buyback program is underway (¥19.3B acquired by end of January). Nikon is developing a new ArF immersion lithography platform in partnership with a major semiconductor manufacturer, targeting delivery in FY2028 to regain share in the growing ArF market. Management expects semiconductor-related businesses to recover in the second half of the next fiscal year but acknowledges continued uncertainty; no further one-time HQ/reshaping costs are expected next fiscal year.
