Miller Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology - Cornell University (Email: [email protected] , Twitter: @DavidBCollum), Dave: You do lack self control, but I learned and laughed making my way thru this. ~ Larry Summers (@LHSummers), former Secretary of the Treasury Every year, David Collum writes a detailed Year in Review synopsis full of keen perspective and plenty of wit. This years is no exception. Introduction Ive been trying to reach you about your cars extended warranty. What began more than a dozen years ago as a synopsis of the years events in markets and finance for a few friends morphed beyond my control into a Year in Review (YIR)an attempt to chronicle human folly and world events for the entire year. It captures key moments before they slip into the brain fog. The process of trying to write a coherent narrative helps me better understand WTF just happened and seminal moments that catch my eye.
Stocks close lower in muted trade, end close to records
09:20pm, Friday, 31'st Dec 2021 AOL
U.S. stocks lost steam in a lackluster trading session on Friday, as major indexes closed the last day of 2021 marginally lower, but still within striking distance of record highs made during a banner year. The S&P 500 treaded water during the session but closed out 2021 up 27%, marking its third year of double-digit gains. The Dow and Nasdaq wavered, but all indices were close to record highs. Next year is poised to be another strong year in equities, though strategists anticipate the S&P 500 is unlikely to match the gains it saw in 2021. The markets will have to weather rising inflation, determine the Federal Reserve''s pace on raising interest rates, and mull President Joe Biden''s second year in office as new COVID-19 cases swamp the U.S . That period is known as the "sophomore slump," since the second year of a president''s term historically tends to be as much as 40% more volatile than the other three years, according to CFRA research chief investment strategist Sam Stovall. I think that 2022 is going to be a good year that tends to follow a great year," Stovall told Yahoo Finance Live . We certainly have a high wall of worry that were going to have to scale." U.S. equity markets were open on New Years Eve for the first time in a decade, thanks to NYSE Rule 7.2 .

During the interview, which took place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, the former president weighed in on the COVID booster shot admitting he''d been jabbed for the third time. In response to the jeering crowd, Trump said, Oh, dont, dont, dont. Thats all right its a very tiny group up there. Trump''s video clip has been viewed more than 400,000 times via Twitter after it was posted by Ian Sams, the spokesman for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services'' COVID-19 communications.
