Amazon Bowed To Beijing''s Propaganda Arm To Keep Chinese Sales Secured, New Report Reveals
12:10am, Monday, 20'th Dec 2021 Zero Hedge
Amazon Bowed To Beijing''s Propaganda Arm To Keep Chinese Sales Secured, New Report Reveals Similar to what we noted about Apple and its "pay to play" arrangement with the Chinese government at the beginning of the month, it looks as though Amazon is also in the midst of trading integrity for profit when it comes to Beijing. Amazon was "marketing a collection of President Xi Jinping''s speeches and writings on its Chinese website about two years ago, when Beijing delivered an edict," according to a new report from Reuters . Beijing wanted Amazon to stop allowing customer ratings and reviews from China. The demand from the CCP came as a result of negative reviews of Xi''s book, the report says. "I think the issue was anything under five stars," a source told Reuters. Amazon complied with the demand, according to two sources, and on Amazon.cn, customers are unable to review or rate the book. The comments section for the book is also disabled. Adhering to the demands of the CCP is one piece of a "deeper, decade-long effort by the company to win favor in Beijing," the report claimed.

Hope vies with fear in Chile election
07:59pm, Sunday, 19'th Dec 2021 Kuwait Times
SANTIAGO: A man arrives to a polling station in Santiago, during the runoff presidential election in Chile, yesterday. AFP SANTIAGO: Chile chooses yesterday between far-right and leftist candidates for a president to lead the country through a period of constitutional change amid a clamor for social reform. The country of 19 million people is on edge, fearing renewed mass protests in response to the outcome of the neck-and-neck race between ultra-conservative lawyer Jose Antonio Kast, 55, and former student activist Gabriel Boric, a millennial 20 years his junior. For a country that has voted centrist since the democratic ousting of brutal dictator Augusto Pinochet 31 years ago, there is a stark choice between two political outsiders one promising a social welfare state, the other a continuation of Chiles neoliberal economic model. Many fear the socially and fiscally conservative policies of law-and-order candidate Kast an apologist for Pinochet, anti gay-marriage and abortion, and a proponent of cutting taxes and social spending.
