Target to Close Thanksgiving
02:40pm, Monday, 22'nd Nov 2021 Baystreet Canada
A surprising development during the week when Americans give thanks: Target (NYSE:TGT) will no longer open its stores on Thanksgiving Day, making permanent a shift to the unofficial start of the holiday season that was suspended during the pandemic. Retailers last year were forced to turn what had become a weekend shopping blitz into an extended event with holiday sales beginning as early as October to limit the number of people in stores during the pandemic. That forced shift during the holidays, however, turned out to be a good move. U.S. holiday sales in November and December rose 8.2% in 2020 from the previous year, according to The National Retail Federation, the nations largest retail trade group. The trade group predicts that this year could shatter last years record, growing between 8.5% and 10.5%. "What started as a temporary measure driven by the pandemic is now our new standard one that recognizes our ability to deliver on our guests holiday wishes both within and well beyond store hours," Target CEO Brian Cornell wrote in a note to employees.

Are Investors Delusional...Or Exploiting The Delusion Of Others?
01:07pm, Monday, 22'nd Nov 2021 Zero Hedge
Are Investors Delusional…Or Exploiting The Delusion Of Others? Authored by Bill Blain via MorningPorridge.com, “Customers don’t expect you to be perfect, but they do expect you to fix it when it goes wrong..” Markets are roiled by lockdowns and approaching holidays. Already the guessing season has begun – with predictions running all the way from Gloomy to Dire. Central Banks will be anxious to be seen to be doing the right thing – which probably means more of the same. And investors? Delusional or exploiting the delusion of others. Rather than a Bang , it feels likely 2021 is going to end on a phuttering wheeze … New lockdowns across Europe, and one-off lock-ups in China, to address outbreaks are a reminder Covid isn’t over. The global economy may be getting used to the virus, but when folk start coughing…. markets take notice. In the UK the numbers remain significant, but it looks extremely unlikely Government will try to close the economy – which may be the smart thing to do… I guess we will find out.
