Delta missed expectations on top and bottom line. The elements driving the miss are not completely unexpected.
All three companies, American Airlines, United Airlines, and Southwest Airlines, reside in the Zacks Transportation - Airline Industry, which has tumbled 22% year-to-date.
The airline missed its revenue and margin targets, but there were plenty of other signs that it's firing on all cylinders.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian said recent flight delays and cancelations were "our rough patch," adding that Delta "didn't do as good as we could."
