As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues to disrupt global markets markets, more big companies are frowning on Russia’s show of power and are taking action to show solidarity with Ukraine by exiting the world’s largest country one after the other across different sectors. About two weeks after the invasion started, at least 40 companies have left Russia or stopped the sale of their products and services in the county in no particular order. Manufacturing Car and truck makers such as General Motors Company, Ford Motor Company, Volkswagen AG, Toyota Motor Corporation, Harley-Davidson, Mercedes Benz, and Volkswagen, announced they would halt shipments to Russia or shut down assembling plants in the country. The "40-Year-Old Virgin" director Judd Apatow has joined the leftist pressure campaign against The Walt Disney Co., shaming CEO Bob Chapek for his decision to refrain from commenting on Florida''s "Parental Rights in Education" bill that would ban the teaching of sexuality and transgenderism to kids in kindergarten through third grade.
Walt Disney Co (NYSE: DIS ) gapped down on Tuesday and then entered into a volatile trading period, falling about 2.7% and then rallying 1.85% before settling down again to close at $131.75. The volatility was in sympathy with the general markets, where the SPDR S&P 500 ETF whipsawed between $415.12 and $427.21 intraday due to geopolitical uncertainty caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which on Tuesday resulted in the U.S. administration announcing it will ban Russian oil and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky attempting to placate Russia by announcing the country will no longer seek to join NATO. On Tuesday, it was reported Disney plans to push into sports betting to revitalize ESPN, which has a shrinking subscriber base. The company believes it will be able to target a younger user base with the ability to add gambling to their sport-viewing experience. While the move into … Full story available on Benzinga.com

Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS ) is facing a growing backlash over the refusal of CEO Bob Chapek to openly criticize the proposed “Don’t Say Gay” legislation in Florida, with a growing number of Disney employees openly criticizing their employer while calls for a boycott of the company grow louder in volume. What Happened: The controversial legislation bans the discussion of sexuality and gender identity in the state’s schools until after the third grade. Chapek’s predecessor Bob Iger came out against the bill on Feb. 25 when it passed in the Florida House of Representatives, but Chapek avoided Iger’s example and made no comment on the matter. The Hollywood Reporter , citing an unnamed “knowledgeable source,” stated Chapek didn''t want to involve the company in “issues he deems irrelevant to the company and its businesses.” But complicating matters were reports that Disney offered campaign contributions to Florida legislators who both supported and opposed the “Don’t Say Gay” legislation. As the issue continued to metastasize, Chapek issued an internal memo to the Disney workforce on Monday that claimed corporate support for the LGBTQ community. “In terms of our communities, we are and will continue to be a leader in supporting organizations that champion diversity,” he wrote. “In 2021, we provided nearly $3 million to support the work of LGBTQ+ organizations.
Two analysts have different stances on The Walt Disney Co (NYSE: DIS ). With Disney''s earnings in the rear-view mirror, BofA says that a rampaging recovery in the Parks unit combined with an upcoming ramp to significantly higher content output has Disney "firing on all cylinders" in its new fiscal year. Disney''s parks division, in particular, is encouraging for multiple drivers, analyst Jessica Reif Ehrlich notes. New features add to revenue growth, including its Genie+ replacement for FastPass and unique attractions like the Galactic Starcruiser and Ratatouille Adventure. And in time, it will be buoyed by the return of international visitors (who make up some 20% of total visitors) and cruise … Full story available on Benzinga.com
