In complaints to the U.S. government, Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen accused the tech giant of misleading investors about combating climate and Covid-19 misinformation, The Washington Post revealed Friday. Haugen has gained international attention for speaking out in the press and testifying to Congress. The former Facebook employee is represented by Whistleblower Aid, which filed the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) complaints earlier this month. The newspaper''s reporting on redacted copies of the documents sparked demands for reforms at the social media network and its parent company, which rebranded as Meta last year in the face of widespread criticism . "Frances Haugen''s SEC filing shows yet again that Facebook cannot be trusted and needs Congress to step in to stop the spread of disinformation," said Michael Khoo, co-chair of the Climate Disinformation Coalition at Friends of the Earth. As the Post ''s Cat Zakrzewski reported: One complaint alleges that climate change misinformation was prominently available on Facebook and that the company lacked a clear policy on the issue as recently as last year, despite Facebook executives'' committing to fight the "global crisis" during earnings calls.

While as of February 2, 2002, only $1,000 worth of Meta stocks were bought on the platform on a net basis, on February 3, that number went up 2,000 times, pointing to the fact that selling volumes were very high while buying volumes in the Meta stock were low.

More playing and less earning will make better Metaverse games

05:11pm, Saturday, 19'th Feb 2022 Coin Telegraph
Blockchains interoperability may be the key to both the macroeconomics of metaverse games and what keeps them fun. If youre not keen on joining Mark Zuckerberg in the Metaverse , I have bad news for you: Youre already there. You dont need a virtual reality headset to enter a virtual world. Humans have been representing reality since our distant ancestors first painted on cave walls. If TV, radio, books or newspapers have ever given you access to events that you did not physically attend, you have experienced a kind of metaverse already. Sport and games are another reality that we often partake in virtually in the stands or behind a screen when not on the field. So, its no coincidence then that, thus far, games dominate what most people understand as the Metaverse, or more widely, Web3 . Our innate love of play, our understanding that fulfilling games depend on rules and structures and our willingness to ascribe value to events that unfold in them are integral to our cultures from soccer to chess to Roblox.

While gizmos such as Apples AirTags are undeniably useful, they carry with them the danger of privacy abuses Once upon a time, intensive surveillance was a prerogative of states. After the arrival of the internet, and especially the rise of companies such as Google and Facebook , ISPs (internet service providers) and mobile networks, it became a prerogative shared between the state and private companies corporations that log everything you do online. Surveillance became a kind of public-private partnership. The companies do much of the work and readily cooperate with security agencies when they come armed with a warrant. Way back in 2009 the German Green politician Malte Spitz went to court to obtain the data that his mobile phone operator, Deutsche Telekom, held on him and then collaborated with the newspaper Die Zeit to analyse and visualise it. What emerged was a remarkably detailed timeline of his daily life, a timeline that would have been readily available to state authorities if they had come for it with appropriate legal authorisation.
