Alphabet''s autonomous driving unit, is expanding ties to the freight-hauling industry by teaming up with C.H. Robinson, North America''s biggest logistics platform.
By Hyunjoo Jin SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Alphabet Inc’s self-driving technology unit Waymo and truck fleet operator C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc said on Wednesday they would team up to test automated trucks with safety drivers behind the wheels in Texas in the coming months.
Waymo announced a new partnership with CH Robinson, a Fortune 500 company and global logistics provider, to test its autonomous trucks in Texas. It’s the latest deal that highlights the Alphabet company’s growing autonomous truck venture, Waymo Via. As part of the new collaboration, Waymo and CH Robinson will oversee a pilot in which Waymo’s test fleet of autonomous trucks will make deliveries, traveling a 240-mile route between Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston. The company is also testing deliveries for UPS along the same route .
