Pfizer CEO Worried Omicron Might Open Door For More Mutant Strains
01:25am, Wednesday, 08'th Dec 2021 Zero Hedge
Pfizer CEO Worried Omicron Might Open Door For More Mutant Strains We have previously suggested that omicron might be bullish for the economy and stocks due to signs that infections caused by the variant are less severe, which could help with the transition toward treating COVID more like the flu. While he didn''t exactly go all-in on FUD like his rival, Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said during an interview at the WSJ''s CEO Council that omicron might lead to still more threatening variants if it isn''t dealt with appropriately. The prospect of another mutation emerging is something that keeps the CEO of the US''s best selling COVID jab up at night (although his company would stand to reap billions in profit should another generation of vaccines be warranted). "I dont think its good news to have something that spreads fast," Bourla told his interlocutors at the summit. "Spreads fast means it will be in billions of people and another mutation may come. You dont want that." So far, data on the ground in South Africa has shown few if any serious cases caused by omicron.
Lagos State raises alarm over fourth wave of the COVID
10:49pm, Tuesday, 07'th Dec 2021 Newsmart
Gov Sanwo-Olu The Lagos State Government has raised alarm over the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state with its positivity rate at six per cent. Governor Babajide who made the declaration in a statement on Tuesday, said the state had begun to experience the beginnings of a fourth wave of the pandemic. The current positivity rate, according to him, is against the positivity rate of 0.1 per cent recorded as of mid-November and analyses revealed that the fourth wave is a result of non-adherence to the laid down protocols. As a way to tackle the rising cases, the governor appealed to residents to go to the various approved centres for the vaccine jabs to protect themselves from the virus. He also asked them to support the government in its effort to manage the fourth wave of the pandemic, especially during the festive season. Governor Sanwo-Olu noted the review of Nigerias travel protocol by the Presidential Steering Committee, saying the state government would ensure total enforcement.
Canada Ditches Moderna Booster For Pfizer Over Myocarditis Risk In Young Men
10:45pm, Tuesday, 07'th Dec 2021 Zero Hedge
Canada Ditches Moderna Booster For Pfizer Over Myocarditis Risk In Young Men Canada has become the latest country to recommend that young people - in this case boys and men aged 12 through 29 - should opt for the Pfizer Covid-19 booster shot over Moderna''s Spikevax due to a higher risk of myocarditis. On Page 7 of Canada''s National Advisory Committee on Immunization''s revised guidelines, the new guidance calls for the Pfizer-BioNTech offering due to " Lower reported cases of myocarditis/pericarditis compared to Moderna Spikevax. " Canada''s Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam explained the decision in a Friday tweet, noting that "The latest data suggests the rare risk of these events following vaccination with mRNA COVID-19 vaccines (most often seen in males 12-29 yrs) may be lower with Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty (30 mcg) compared to Moderna Spikevax (100 mcg) vaccine ," while a "longer interval between 1st & 2nd dose of a primary series results in stronger immune response/higher vaccine effectiveness + may be associated with lower risk of myocarditis &/or pericarditis in teens & young adults." 5/8 Evidence also shows a longer interval between 1st & 2nd dose of a primary series results in stronger immune response/higher vaccine effectiveness + may be associated with lower risk of myocarditis &/or pericarditis in teens & young adults. 600 Fines: What''s The Latest On Austria''s Compulsory Vaccine Plan?
10:00am, Tuesday, 07'th Dec 2021 Zero Hedge
600 Fines: What''s The Latest On Austria''s Compulsory Vaccine Plan? By The Local Austria''s planned vaccine mandate law will take a step towards becoming reality this week, and will reportedly apply from the age of 14, with fines of 600 which can be issued multiple times. Several of Austrias major national newspapers including the Kurier , Die Presse, Heute and Der Standard claimed to have seen a copy of the draft law, though the Ministry of Health declined to comment on it when asked by broadcaster ORF , saying an official first draft will be submitted later this week. According to the media reports, the law will come into effect on February 1st but fines will not be issued until March 15th, allowing people the chance to get vaccinated after the law becomes reality. The government has however repeatedly urged Austrian residents not to wait until the mandate to get their jab. Reminder letters inviting people to vaccination would be sent by the Ministry of Health in February; similar letters have already been sent out by social insurance agencies.
Mixing Vaccines against COVID-19 provides better Protection
09:42am, Tuesday, 07'th Dec 2021 Novinite
The immune response in people who received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines from Astra Zeneca and Biontech / Pfizer with Moderna was higher, according to a large British study. "We found a really good immune response overall actually higher than the threshold set by the two doses of Astra Zeneca vaccine," Matthew Snape, an Oxford professor who led a study called Com-COV2, told Reuters. If the Astra Zeneca vaccine is followed by the Moderna or Novavax vaccine, the number of antibodies and T cells is higher than with two doses of Astra Zeneca, the researchers found. The study, which involved 1,070 volunteers, also showed that one dose of the Biontech / Pfizer vaccine was followed by Moderna or Novavax. The results are good news, especially for lower-income countries that cannot afford a broad enough portfolio of vaccines, Reuters added. /Dnevnik
British study supports mixed vaccine regimens

Researchers have found that switching up vaccines for the second dose can lead to a strong immune response, especially a shot of AstraZeneca or Pfizer followed by Moderna. This may be good news for countries adopting a mix and match strategy for primary immunizations. Eve Johnson reports.
