BuzzFeed Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
BuzzFeed announced a transaction in which media entrepreneur Byron Allen will become Chairman and CEO upon closing (expected within the month) and will make a significant investment via his family office. The company plans organizational changes ahead of the transition, including cost reductions to make the core business more efficient, and intends to spin out BuzzFeed Studios as an independent entity to focus premium studio, microdrama and digital video businesses. Founder Jonah Peretti will transition from CEO to President of BuzzFeed AI to focus on AI-driven product and technology initiatives. Financially, Q1 2026 revenue was $31.6 million, down 12.4% year-over-year; advertising revenue fell ~19.8% to $17.1 million, content revenue rose 69% to $7.5 million, and commerce/other declined 32% to $6.9 million. Net loss widened to $15.1 million and adjusted EBITDA was negative $7.8 million. Audience time spent declined ~10.7% year-over-year.
